A hot liquid can freeze faster than a cold liquid, a counterintuitive phenomenon called the Mpemba effect.
In our new paper, we argue that a quantum version of this effect is ubiquitous across a large variety of chaotic quantum systems.

Quantum electrodynamics on a 1D lattice can lead to localization of charges, in contrast to the thermalizing dynamics. This study identifies the origin of such non-thermal signatures and attribute it to the fracturing of the underlying Hilbert space.

We show that a chiral spin-chain which naturally admits a black hole description, realizes the Hayden-Preskill quantum teleportation protocol and shows Hawking-like radiation!
