some of these do contain some kind of analysis of Orientalism & imperialism, using some vocabulary from critical theory, only to feed misogynistic and racialized anxieties of postcolonial nationalism. it's a general trend in digital narratives I've been fascinated by

The Korean version of my essay, “Queer Theory Impossible” is reprinted in Munhakdongne’s 30th-anniversary anthology. It critiques the US-centric construction of queer theory and its failure when translated globally, highlighting its entrenchment in privileged institutions of the US.
At yesterday’s DKSC emergency roundtable, we explored feminist/queer perspectives on protests, the politics of remembering/forgetting, and the positionality of US-based Korean scholars, rethinking democracy beyond US-centric Cold War frameworks while interrogating heteropatriarchal nationalism.
1) How does the manuscript read as a book? 2) What do you make of the manuscript's structure and the narrative arc? Do the chapters build upon one another? Is there too much signposting / summary? 5) What do you think of the book's audience(s)? Is the manuscript well-positioned? Coherent? 7) What is the manuscript's central arguments)? Is this / are these sustained throughout the study? 8) What do you believe are the most pressing / important changes to be made to the manuscript prior to submission to a publisher? Looking to receive feedback on a book in progress? You might wish to provide readers with these questions. I wrote them up for manuscript workshop and they inspired some great, constructive feedback. #academicsky

Henry Wai-Chung Yeung book on Interconnected Worlds: Global Electronics and Production Networks in East Asia
Too many books that I want to read, too little time to actually read
I will say this one on semiconductors and tv production in East Asia is pretty eye opening to value chains and supply chains, and who owns the tech being made where
Join us for an emergency roundtable on “K-democracy.” We’ll critically examine the heteronationalist and exceptionalist narratives of Korean democracy, the varied experiences of national “crisis” across communities, and the linkages between Korean exceptionalism and US empire. bit.ly/DKSCEmergency

I also used Wix to create my website, and it worked really well for me. Their templates are great! That said, depending on how much functionality or detail you want, it can be time-consuming. I worked on mine during my sabbatical.😉 Here’s mine in case you wonder: jihyunahn.wixsite.com/home
Wrong headline, NYT. Should read: Impeachment Vote Foiled by Boycott from Yoon's Allies.
Ruling party refused to hold the President accountable for what most South Koreans believe was an act of treason. That's the ruling party's failure -- not the opposition's.
Just in: The impeachment vote against President Yoon has failed, as 105 of 108 PPP (ruling party) lawmakers boycotted, leaving the National Assembly short of the required votes. The Democratic Party may reintroduce the impeachment motion as early as next week, but it's going to be a long fight..😡
Thank you! Unfortunately, it turns out that the impeachment vote has failed as the National Assembly didn't meet the threshold to pass the motion..😥 It's going to be a long fight!
Yoon must be impeached, and the PPP (the ruling party) that blocked the motion to impeach Yoon will be judged by the people for their wrong-headed actions.
The impeachment vote is currently underway, but it appears futile—without the necessary numbers to pass, as members of the ruling party have walked out of Parliament in opposition. Their blatant disregard for Korean citizen's demand for justice infuriates me.
Sleepless nights continue as Korea’s political situation shifts hour by hour. Hundreds of thousands of people have gathered in front of the National Assembly and across the nation, demanding President Yoon’s impeachment after his reckless decision to impose martial law earlier this week.
"South Korea’s overnight struggle has reminded the world of a stark truth: democracy is not self-sustaining. It demands vigilance. It requires collective action."
An updated version of my piece has been published on Zeteo.com. Thank you @mehdirhasan.bsky.social for sharing. #SouthKorea #Democracy
Excited to talk about my book and be part of this New Books in Asian and Asian Diaspora Dance Studies Virtual Series on Thursday, December 19! With Emily Wilcox and Soo Ryon Yoon, and Rui Xu!
Please consider signing the statement.
Yoon must resign or be impeached for actions that have caused great harm to the nation. Yet the impeachment process remains stalled, blocked by the ruling party. It’s infuriating that the Korean people endure all this pain and immense social costs of one president's incompetence and wrong decisions.
