(I meant four other new buildings that were classified as renovs and so didn't bury any lines. Anyway, the system is ridiculous, was super expensive for us, and won't help the city meet its goals.)

You can't hear me yelling—I assume you know what Somerville does, require new builds to do it, but all dev classifies theirs as renos, but our new green house was new, we paid many Ks for burying power, but there are like at least four other new builds on our street, and IT'LL NEVER BE DONE THIS WAY
and...thanks? I mean I'm also weirdly fascinated by how painful it is? but not enough to read it all!
This book is just as horrible (worse?) than what I'd been led to expect — good for you for taking this burden on for the rest of us.
(and I have the same reaction. sometimes our reporting is particularly intellectually intriguing, sometimes that plus I just have to go out and get some sushi)
Thanks!
But at the same time they're not the same thing, & nobody else has really made sense of how the whole - ahem - sausage is made. It includes super interesting stories about pioneering women scientists, courses for horses, and how much protein we *really* need to eat. gastropod.com/protein-pyra...
What was so difficult about telling this story? Well, the dietary guidelines (that is, what we should eat) are one thing. The labels on food packaging (how much of a nutrient do we need) are a second. The image we're given (the food pyramid, the plate, etc) are a third. And they're all related.
In non-world-threatening but still political news, we just put out one of the most complicated episodes we've had to wrangle recently, based on the new government food guidelines from January/the odd new upside down pyramid: gastropod.com/protein-pyra...
I just called my congressperson and senators, asking them to reconvene congress, take back their War Powers immediately, introduce articles of impeachment, and to pressure cabinet officials to invoke the 25th amendment.
The president has clearly lost his remaining marbles. Time to act.

"I'm [NAME] from [PLACE, ZIP]. I'm calling to urge the Senator/Rep to contact Adm. Correll & remind him that he has the same legal obligation as any soldier to refuse an illegal order from this Commander in Chief."
That is absolutely AMAZING. AMAZING!
You can do yet more for native bees if you want- leave your native plant brown stems up for more than a year, but down to maybe 6-8 inches (they use last year's as homes). AND you can even buy/build native bee homes! Some even come with native bee cocoons! (My bday gift to my spouse yesterday)
Tim also makes these incredible...he calls them 'bluff bars' (a take on cliff bars), which are like oats, peanut butter, rice syrup, cranberries, nuts, and chocolate. Totally delicious and often just the thing for me.
Perfect! For me it's like whatever I can grab, which is usually leftovers. Or tofu. Or oat milk.
Oh, yeah, just get a good granola bar.
TOTALLY
(Poppi) I also was the spoilsport with the other niece's 'protein' bar, which was just a candy bar. I said, it's fine to have a candy bar on occasion! And she was like it's 20 grams of protein! No, sorry, they artificially inflate the numbers with collagen, which your body doesn't use as protein
My niece convinced my SIL to buy her Poppy and was like, Auntie, you'll like it, it's healthy! No, love, it's just rebranded soda, and soda's fine on occasion but I'm not into these flavors. (She didn't like me saying it was just soda.)
Also the performances were absolutely AMAZING. We all loved it, even my spouse, not a huge musical fan, and my mom, who with hearing processing issues couldn't quite understand it all.
I just saw Suffs and I'm sure there are issues, but to watch a rousing, earnest, complicated take on how change happens, the different (at times clashing) approaches nec to make it happen, the fact that it CAN happen even when it seems impossible... Well, I cried, and also it felt like quite a balm.
(Many of my least favorite books, much of which would be classified as literary fiction, lack active, vibrant plot AND include beautiful sentences about suburban ennui.)
I agree, I don't care, but here's another reason I personally love YA — I really love plot. And YA books (particularly fantasy, which is my fave) are often *great* on plot.
Incredibly inspiring. (And whew what a time to lead an Israeli university.)
Not a problem! We're just in the decision-making month, so all info would be so incredibly helpful. Thank you!
This is my problem. Am looking for a way to tell my brain it has to do at least an hour of work, and my brain keeps yelling BUT IT'S THE WEEKEND.
@kerstanley.bsky.social Just wondering if your friend who went to AU is willing to chat? Totally understand if not! but it'd be a huge huge help if so. Thanks!
That person clearly doesn't know any Jews.
But all that said, I love reading good news stories, like these two from mother jones! www.motherjones.com/politics/202... www.motherjones.com/politics/202...
(Don't @ me about netanyahu, I wore black when he was first elected in 1996, I've been anti-Netanyahu before most Americans ever heard of him) But so do I have that right? Fun time all around. (Yes, like most days this week, it's an existentially depressing one.)
