Edmonton hospital admins are filing disciplinary actions against some doctors, revoking their hospital privileges and filing complaints to the regulatory college in the fallout over a contract dispute. Lawyers and the AMA say it needs to stop. #AbLeg
Meanwhile, Ontario's education minister has tabled legislation that would limit the role of school trustees in that province, change admin leadership of boards, require govt exams in high school and have attendance count toward student grades www.cbc.ca/news/canada/... #OntEd #AbLeg
Some current and former school trustees say a new bill eroding school board autonomy signals the Alberta government plans to eliminate elected trustees.
The minister says he has no plans to do so. #AbLeg #AbEd

The Alberta government has just tabled a bill it says will remove politics and ideology from schools, including limiting flags to Canadian and Albertan only (in most cases). More here: #AbLeg #AbEd
More than three years after inking the deal to buy 5 million bottles of childrens medication, most of which didn’t and couldn’t come, the Alberta government says AHS is now using legal means to try and recoup $49 million from the sellers www.cbc.ca/news/canada/... #AbLeg #AbHealth
The effects could be substantial in Edmonton-area hospitals, but doctors say other areas, like Fort McMurray, are also greatly dependent on hospitalists to keep hospital care running. #AbLeg
A phase out of incentives for Alberta doctors (stipends) could have a substantial effect on the availability of hospital care, starting April 1. Not only did surgeons warn of potential cancellations, but ER docs and hospitalists are warning of a potential hit to emergency and inpatient care #ableg
Justice Minister Mickey Amery, right, speaks at a news conference on Wednesday, March 18, while Alberta Premier Danielle Smith looks on. The Alberta government has introduced new provincial restrictions around Medical Assistance in Dying .

For clarity - there are multiple graphic novel versions of 1984 (TIL!) Calgary Board of Education and EPSB removed a different version (this one) www.amazon.ca/George-Orwel... But it's unclear from Rocky View Schools' list which version they removed. #AbEd
Just stopped by the public library to pick up the removed books that I was able to request from nearby branches. #AbLeg #AbEd
Important to remember the order on literary standards also applies to charter and independent schools. I tried to get removal information by filing an ATI to the education ministry for all lists. That request is now in third-party consultation purgatory, where it is likely to stay for a long time.
The Centre for Free Expression has done far more legwork, contacting every Alberta school division, asking how many removed books, and sending access to info requests to every division that said they did remove materials. The results they have so far are in this national challenge database #AbEd
We've got some details for you in this story, including a compiled list of all the material I found removed through access to information requests. It's mostly graphic novels, but some results are unexpected. Profiles of artists. Retelling of bible stories. Cartooning instruction books. #AbLeg #AbEd
What books did Alberta schools *actually* pull off the shelves in response to a provincial order? It took a lot of work to find out. We still don't have a complete picture. And some schools are still pulling material.
Free speech advocates say it's ban unmatched in Canadian history. #AbLeg By me.
“If we're relying on the RCMP to save us from foreign interference during a provincial referendum, it’s not gonna happen. And I would say the same for CSIS and for any kind of regulatory body, frankly,” said security expert Patrick Lennox. Story by #ableg @iciemmanuel.bsky.social
Alberta’s ethics commissioner later ruled the premier had breached the Conflicts of Interest Act in that phone call www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...
Modry also facilitated a now infamous phone call between Premier Danielle Smith and a pastor facing COVID charges www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...
A BC court found an Alberta separatist movement leader misappropriated $1.3 million of his elderly aunt and uncle’s money. Their niece says Dennis Modry hasn’t paid it back.
Premier Danielle Smith claimed Ontario doesn't offer health coverage to temporary foreign workers' families. But that province does, under several conditions. Watch this fact check. #AbLeg

Oh wow I pasted badly there. Sorry. Ignore the first line 😅
Aside: Triage liaison physicians aren't new. The role has been funded or defunded in various ERs in Alberta at various points in time.
But we want to make sure that
(2/2) "... we can look at physicians' assistants. But we want to make sure that the AMA and their professionals have the first opportunity to help deliver this new, this new form of care for those in the emergency department," Premier Smith said.

An update on this: Premier Danielle Smith just fielded a question about the missing promised TLP emerg. doctors at a press conference.
Smith: "If it turns out to be the case that doctors are not interested in filling those triage positions, we can look at nurse practitioners..." (1/2) #Ableg
In the wake of the teachers' strike/lockout. Alberta's premier committed to creating "complexity classrooms" to ease pressure on Ts and students. We look at the Saskatchewan experiences where Danielle Smith took the idea from: www.cbc.ca/news/canada/... #AbLeg #AbEd #SkPoli
Coincidentally, I happened to renew mine in the fall and it was impressively smooth. The application is online, and if you go to a participating photo shop, they submit your photo directly to the UK govt.
I got frequent text message updates about where my application/passport was. A++
Are you a British-Canadian dual citizen? Or were your parents born in the UK? A quiet rule change means you may need a UK passport to travel there now: www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...
I see what you did there
