The words disharmony + reharmonisation translate the interrelated notions of harm and reparation into the Nasa Indigenous vernacular (nasa yuwe). By centering on these concepts, this conversation aims to shed light on the Nasa Indigenous people's multidimensional experience of violence.
Researchers will converse with José Vicente Chocué Medina, a Nasa Indigenous authority of Pueblo Nuevo, ancestral territory of Sa’th Tama Kiwe, Caldono, and María Socorro Granda Abella, a researcher affiliated with the Autonomous Intercultural Indigenous University, UAIIN-CRIC (Cauca).
📅 Join our Colombia country research unit in conversation with guests about the meaning of disharmony + reharmonisation in the context of the transitional justice process in #Colombia. Hybrid - Fri 27 Feb, 13:00-14:30 GMT, University of York and Online

New blog post! The current legal framework treats conflict displacement too narrowly, leaving many harms unseen and unaccountable. Sarah Khan calls for “full(er) protection” using a harm+need lens to move beyond legal compliance and better address displacement.

Two young children in Goma, Democratic Republic of Congo, outside a transit and orientation center for children who were associated with armed forces and armed groups. They are looking at a painting on the wall which says in Swahili “I can also help my country by going back to school”.
New blog post! Although child recruitment is prohibited, IHL and IHRL do not fully capture harms experienced by children or the intergenerational norms shaping recruitment and reintegration in the DRC. Broader social, cultural, and economic analysis is required.
