Sometimes I hate being literate and aware of my surroundings
But.
This kind of knowledge matters
Two cats are playing in a cat tree. One is reaching out to bop the other on the head, but gently without claws
The bopped cat is returning the bop, equally playfully: the first cat is receiving the blow with tucked ears but no actual pain or fear
Tired out, the brothers are curled into one round cuddle pile of snoozing kittens.

While this hasn't been a healthy society at any point in my lifetime, the past decade has undeniably taken a particularly deep toll.
Corps and governments pour billions of dollars into PR, the narrative, and trying to convince us that they're invincible, inetivble, divine. But that's just it: if it costs billions to prove, it says plenty about how fragile they really are. Boycotts work.
The correct response to US imperialistic warmongering is to be sickened, embarrassed AND to connect what they are doing overseas to our own oppression here.
Same beast.

These times are so dramatic they are surreal & disorienting, & it's a reality warp. Many forces attempt to manipulate your perception right now, & AI disseminating false images & info is part. As a mad person, I traverse reality surreally, & I advise you to take responsibility for keeping your grip.
This is the horrifying xAI "Colossus" Musk has unleashed on the South. "The sound continues through the day & often intensifies at night...making it hard to think clearly & even harder to fall asleep." Solidarity with Devan Jenkins & her neighbors fighting for their community's health & well-being.
March is a time to mark how we shrugged off mass preventable death & disability to avoid discomfort or disrupting capitalist consumption. @markedbycovid.bsky.social organizes US COVID Memorial Day the 1st Monday of March. I cherish the collective witness & vigil: www.youtube.com/watch?v=54C5...

Incredibly proud of our massive win on behalf of tens of thousands of people detained by the GEO Group in Aurora, Colorado--a case I've been working on for more than a decade. Just claiming you're following the orders of the federal government doesn't put you above the law.
As the analyst crowed about "verticals" and "value chains," the COO gloated: "we've got a really magical thing going..." The fascist merger of corporate and state power is no longer an emergent threat: it is here, and we are all (in varying ways & degrees) in grave danger.

2. AI to draft incident reports from bodycam recordings, to save time for cops who can then edit them,
3. Combining networks of public and private cameras for an integrated surveillance network, and

Just listened to an investment analyst interview the COO of Axon, and his vision of AI-supercharged combined public and private surveillance was terrifying. The interview's behind a paywall, but four alarming areas of growth stood out:
1. Using AI to automate 911 dispatch,

A huge pile of snow is so firmly-packed and frozen over that someone has tagged the side of the snow mound with "t$u" in dark red spray paint.
These mounds aren't going anywhere: street artists in Philly have started tagging the piles of snow!
