Two men from the borderlands, incentivized by the allure of “whiteness” and the rules of “real manhood” (a relic of Spanish imposition of strict gender roles on the Indigenous people of Latin America), sent to do the dirty grunt work of the oppressor class.

"Much work remains to be done identifying the contours of what constitutes 'the system' and thus what constitutes system justification, as well as when and among who we should expect system justification to occur most."

Congrats to Cuomo for thinking Zohran's popular because of the lighting in his outdoor videos & for finding 15 New Yorkers willing to shake his hand without squirming.

80+% of both Democrats and Republicans believe America would be better off if more Americans worked in manufacturing, but < 30% say that about themselves.
The bipartisan belief that America would be a better place if *other people* worked in a factory.

Trump is imposing a 10% tariff on the Heard and McDonald Islands.
The Heard and McDonald Islands are uninhabited.
1/🧵 "More voters help Republicans" is reshaping Dem strategy after 2024. We put this claim to the test with a deep dive into voter files and survey data. Results? Non-voters remain disproportionately Democratic while GOP simply turns out their base better.
I understand this isn’t representative of the whole Dem party but…
Who keeps telling Democrats that the American public is left-right ideological and that being “moderate” is what most voters want??
It’s a narrative only capital interests would want you to bel… ok I answered my own question
„House Republicans passed a bill (now stalled in the Senate) to require citizens to have a passport or birth certificate matching their name to vote. This would be a back-door ban on voting for any woman who took her husband's last name and doesn't have a passport, an est. 69 million women“
Is there somewhere I can get an estimate on the tax savings I’m supposed to be seeing in exchange for democracy, my rights, and all the other benefits of a federal government? Like a grand? (Not even considering other costs like debt slavery of course)
There’s enough stressful stuff happening I don’t need Duolingo’s passive aggressive bs
It’s wild I haven’t been to Target since. As someone who went there for any & everything. This weekend I had to do shopping. I went to ulta (with a coupon) for some things, I went to Costco, dollar tree and cvs. I did have to go more places but I still got all the things I needed. You can do it.
Utter failure to grasp what we are facing www.nytimes.com/2025/02/15/u...
1. People lack the framework to recognize an attempt to overthrow the constitutional order
2. The lack of elites *acting* like point 1 is true makes it illegible. Without Ds behaving as if it's a crisis, it's not a crisis.
Thanks Aleks!
In print 🙂. I think it’s crucial for political neuroscience to speak to poli sci lit and shed light on how politics works (rather than just the brain). That’s why I’m very proud of this one by myself and Ingrid! @jepsjournal.bsky.social was great, btw. Superb editorial process from start to finish.
Oh wow I always forget that my best celebrity encounter other than Joe Rogan in a Denny’s was Billy Blanks outside an Outback Steakhouse. I was maybe 9 years old, kicking a wall, and he stopped me and showed me the correct form.
Will give this a read for sure. Thanks! I am interested in the equity piece of all this but am no economist, so that’s exactly what I’m looking for. Maybe I am underestimating just how big the gap is between those who drive and those who don’t in NYC.
Or not even that there isn’t a more progressive way (we can’t let perfection be the enemy of progress, and I support the goals here), but that this isn’t another way of trying to gain worthwhile progressive outcomes but while protecting the wealthy.
I’m a huge fan of those benefits. I’m just wondering if there isn’t a more progressive way of obtaining that revenue.
My favorite part of both sides-ism is how much money we will spend on security today to prop up the myth that “both sides” are equally likely to try to violently overthrow democracy.
As for sales tax, sure, I tend to lean against anything that financially burdens lower income folks to an equal or higher degree than higher income folks…
To be clear, I’m not really taking a stand here as much as I can’t get around the idea that it seems like another way that pro-inequality policies slip in as somehow pro-equality… just looking for what I’m missing here.
But of those who do own cars, the burden is higher for those with lower than with higher income, no?
I get the motivation behind the NYC congestion pricing, but can someone tell me how this doesn’t disproportionately place the burden of relieving congestion on the lowest income levels? I get driving in NYC is in itself a luxury to some degree, shouldn’t the richest bear the greatest burden?
Curious what others think:
Is the “blood-and-soil” faux-populist racism of Loomer/Bannon et al. (who don’t want H1B visas) distinct from the nihilistic hyper-capitalistic “model minority” racism of Musk et al. (who likely just want H1Bs to continue exploiting immigrants)? Or is it the same thing?
These post cards should be a part of every “sweep” and mailed to all the city’s residents.
I didn’t even know this was a goal of mine until now
