Digging around in one of the Spanish language anime/manga magazine Minami CDs from 1999 and came across an issue of 'Adamzine', a little multimedia fanzine that I've seen on DOKAN discs too.

That is not true. Fujoshi were present before the show was popular, but it became popular when male fans started supporting it by writing articles in anime magazines. Fujoshi didn't mind the show not being popular, whereas male fans started shouting to the sky for people to watch it.
