745 Bar-tailed Godwits and 70 Whimbrel flew east past the seawatching hide this afternoon once the wind had swung round a bit. Hopefully the forecasted north-easterly winds during the next week will bring some more offshore passage. Why not come and join us by staying at the Observatory?

A superb start to the day with a decent arrival of Willow Warblers, a Tree Pipit and Ring Ouzel in off the sea, a Pied Flycatcher and Redstart in a private garden on the Point and best of all a singing Wood Warbler half way up the east side of the Long Pits! #kentbirding

A brilliant recovery of a Dungeness ringed Blackcap. It was ringed as a young male on 20th September last year, it has been caught again at Jew's Gate, Gibraltar on the 19th January 2026. Travelling 1720km SSW during its autumn migration, to where it is now presumably wintering.
