That's one of the primary complaints about lawyers, though to be fair, many defense attorneys with guilty clients will try to get a sentence reduced more than let them "get away with it" entirely. Whether it's the right thing to do or not depends on the case and your definition of justice!

People still like to hate on lawyers (sometimes fairly but often not), but I really wish the US elected more people who studied and understand law into political offices.
