My little Portland suburb just opened a new barber shop where you can get a haircut for $40, beard trim for $25, and a drum lesson for $30.

I worked in public libraries for 32 yearsβ€”my co-workers were the best. Being able to serve so many different communities, filled with patrons from around the world, was a real privilege.

On Thursday, April 30, 7PM, I'll be joining @robertmoor.com at @powells.bsky.social to celebrate & discuss his truly wonderful new book, IN TREES. It's a brilliant meditation on trees literal & figurative; botanical, familial, & conceptual β€” trees as ways of thinking & being. Highly recommended!

Oooh, I look forward to checking it out! I've been using Pocket Cast, which works well, but I love the idea of anything community built.

There are some important things to remember in terms of Awards-shortlist day etiquette. A short thread.

Even folks I really like and respect make some blunders on this stuff.

1) Allow people to enjoy the shortlist. Avoid dismissing the finalists (whomever they are) for at least a month.

A whole new scam aimed at writers:

- get an email from a writers conference asking for you as a speaker
- google the conference: it's real
- say 'yeah, let's do it'
- the 'fee' is mentioned for the first time
- you check with friends listed for the event and find out the email reply address is fake

Oh my goodness, yes, all the fist bumps! It's a very bifurcated way to live. Thank goodness for the little escapes into the garden, the woods, the neighborhoods.

One of the kitchen cupboards has decided to spontaneously and very audibly burst open at random times.
And by random, I obviously mean "whenever the kitchen cupboard ghost wants to scare the crap out of me."
