Little embarrassed to ask, but are non-straightforward layouts kind of always fragile in a frontend repo?

I often wind up w/ "app style" layouts (no long scroll, everything is contained in a viewport-sized frame with scrolls on individual containers) and I always like: no one touch the flex stuff!
