Today I visited MusΓ©e Lambinet and got thinking about ideas of beauty and sexuality tied to the popular early modern depiction of Venus in these statuettes. These are supposed to be white women but we can also find similar black Venus statuettes -which I’m researching on!

So I think it’s time I introduce myself!
I’m a third year PhD researcher at the EUI in Florence. My research looks at blackness, race, and gender in material culture in the early modern period, especially in Britain, France, and the Netherlands. Im also in the material and visual working group! πŸ˜ƒ πŸ“š
