It should be that easy, but I guess people just don't know how easy it is.
As if the problem isn't "how do I use an emulator", the problem might be the friction to get using an emulator as subscription services are more frictionless at the cost of providing an "ok" experience that could be better.

my guess is lack of knowledge on how to emulate and people not being as tech savvy with computers, as the convenience of subscription services are just too convenient and the received experience is "it works" to "decent" where any faults might get attributed to "that's how the game originally was".

stream went well (other than EA app not working, which delayed the start) and got to show-case the new stuff implemented to the stream app
