It’s extremely weird to me that thanks to a mad orange con artist who somehow convinced a nation half the world away that he should lead them that my mortgage has gone up £700 a month

By any measure a sizeable number of American citizens still think everything is fine & that should be a warning flag

I remain baffled how he didn’t bang on endlessly about it.

Equally I am alarmed at how quickly Charlie Kirk was sunk from the Trump talk.

Lot of people don’t understand that what is happening to Ukraine & Iran now will echo on for absolutely centuries.

I’m sure it’s not an easy job but the Mandelson episode combined with the Rayner episode combined with just how much of a bollock he keeps dropping is a theme now

The Edstone (which happens to be in someone’s garden near where I live last time I checked) was an early warning sign that people were just not interested in politics enough anymore & would vote on vibes.

It was a bad grasp

Do I feel that Starmer has been a a success?

Categorically not. The harm Starmer has done to cliche that legal types are clear minded & focused ethical professionals is apparent.

Starmer now comes off as an out of touch administrator now. Someone unable to connect to reality of affairs.

Imho.

Like at this stage, you are picking out one particularly grubby apple & not asking yourself the question “funny, why is this apple called Mandelson so much worse than many other apples in this barrel? Indeed, why are some of these manky apples even in here? Oh well. Nevertheless.”

FCDO always risk vets applicants & this was written down in a letter to parliament back in September 2025.

The fact that Mandelson was a FUCKING PEER IN THE LORDS but already regarded as a risk baffles me even more.

But we have a few risks already in the Lords don’t we?

A clip from The New York Times reads: "But only the entities that officially paid the tariffs are eligible to recover that money. That means that the fuller universe of people affected by Mr. Trump’s policies — including millions of Americans who paid higher prices for the products they bought — are not able to apply for direct relief.

The extent to which consumers realize any gain hinges on whether businesses share the proceeds, something that few have publicly committed to do. Some have started to band together in class-action lawsuits in the hopes of receiving a payout."

The average American family paid $1,700 in tariffs last year, according to the bipartisan Congressional Joint Economic Committee. Few will ever see any of that money back. The refunds will go to companies, if doled out at all. What a joke.
