I’m not sure either for that reason, there seems to be no info available on what the number of charity versus ballot entries is, but the Great North Run has always (even 15 years ago) been difficult to get in by ballot and always appeared to have a big part of guaranteed charity places.
I think the pool of ballot places must be *considerably* smaller than the total. Most are purchased by charities, I believe.
