YES!!!! In heavy traffic in western NY, turn signals are like asking to be let in. But also the traffic is so thin here compared to downstate that a lot of the time people just wait until there's enough space to merge without slowing anyone down, which usually doesn't take long.

I wish I knew long ago that there are driving "dialects" 🤣 Like I always knew certain places had certain reputations, but I didn't know that's because the driving norms (including when and how closely laws are followed) are literally different! 😭

Anyway, if you're learning to drive as an adult, I recommend learning in a place where people drive aggressively, you'll be prepared for anything, and if you move to a place with less aggressive drivers, people will be both impressed by your skills and also a little scared/intimidated, lmao

I was in rush hour traffic this morning and did a downstate merge and realized, oops I probably could've waited til I had more room, lol... Then someone in front of me was trying to merge right so I braked to let them do it and they hesitated bc there was only like 1.5 car lengths of space, lmao

But I realized as soon as I got on the GWB, oh no, that is 0% a joke, I did not make that up, when you merge in the NY metro area you need to poke your nose between cars to merge, or you will never leave your lane and probably like drive into the ocean eventually.
