@catboycdr.bsky.social Having listened to a history podcast on ships cats recently, I was wondering if Starfleet has anything analogous to the old British Naval customs or regulations surrounding useful non-crew animals on starships.

Your stuff’s always good but this is one of the best, if not the best, Volts podcast episodes. Really enlightening.

The past week had been unseasonably warm (30ºF warmer than average). To the point where I got all the bikes out of the garage to make sure they had air in the tires and not too many cobwebs. Even put the batteries back in the e-bikes.

Today I’m just glad my Surly still has snow tires on.

Looks like a Mont Blanc Meisterstück. (Maybe a 149?) Nice pen, certainly!

Gandalf: So do all who live to see such times. This is all exceptionally stupid, though

Have been using Firefox for basically as long as it's been out. It's my daily driver for work, and I have donated (and would be happy to continue to donate) for a non-Chrome, multi-platform vendor that has security, privacy, and web standards compatibility.

If it becomes an 'AI Browser' I'm gone.

Thanks! Those look great for my R&M Load and easier than swapping for snow tires.

Those are awesome. What are the chains and where did you get them?

It is really good and I am enjoying it greatly!

Delighted to say that an updated and expanded version of my series on one of the most extraordinary acts in aviation history will be running on The Up Front over the coming weeks.

And even better: it's now completely free to read.

Cost of a 16GB Pi5 vs cost of your time and aggravation dealing with it, makes sense. Looking forward to seeing your results.

That would make sense. The EC.2 instances were all of the smaller variety.

Have had multiple developers at work crash AWS EC.2 instances doing remote dev with VSC so I don’t think it’s just you.

Been listening to the Decoder podcast on @theverge.com, specifically the recent car CEO episodes. Each one of them has made me more determined to hold onto my aging cars and go with e-bikes/cargo e-bikes as much as possible. It amazes me how unappealing Ford, GM, and Rivian make their cars sound.

I am promised trains. Therefore I purchase the book. Done.

I have a Load 75 (purchased just before the Carrie came out), so I completely get it. The Carrie does seem to be a great 'small bakfiets' though. Need to try one at some point.

The Carrie looks very cool. How does it ride?

I'm very excited by it. I'm also looking at the rich retro-oligarchs in the background and stuff like the Boring Company vs. California HSR, not to mention the current administration, and going 'hope I live to see it'.

They Say Ford’s $4,500 E-Bike Is Awful—So I Rode It YouTube video by Berm Peak Express

I generally dislike the flood of cheap, low quality hub-drive e-bikes into the US market, and Ford is an automotive company, not a bicycle company, but still. If you had me choose between a Ford e-bike and a good chunk of the junk on r/ebikes I know which I'd get...
