and the really cool thing about this is, doing things to help other people is one of the most effective ways to push back against a creeping sense of powerlessness

i know it’s cheesy to say “helping others is its own reward,” but it’s also extremely true!

we’re never powerless while we’re helping.

All The Women I Met in Jail A law meant to help victims of domestic violence often results in their arrest. One woman details surviving abuse and the system that claimed to protect her.

All, most of you know by now what happened to me in February.

I've written an essay about this for @harpersbazaar.uol.com.br.web.brid.gy, and I hope you'll give it a read:

#WomensHistoryMonth: The City of Women Map is a fascinating visualization of women’s history and urban transportation. Created by Molly Roy, Rebecca Solnit, and Joshua Jelly-Schapiro, the map renames subway stops after notable women with links to that area, offering an entirely new way to view #NYC.

Yes to this! 700 homes in Puna were destroyed in the 2018 eruption. Thanks to the HVO, residents were notified in time and were able to escape. Imagine if that early warning system was taken away!

Hawaiian Volcano Observatory Evicted Amid Federal Cuts Observatory leaders have assured local emergency officials their public service will continue, but questions linger about how and where that work will happen.

ICYMI, the Trump administration's cuts include the Hawai'i Volcano Observatory. This is the USGS office that houses staff and equipment to monitor the active volcanoes on Hawai'i Island and warn residents about coming eruptions.
