I'm not joking when I say mRNA technology is more important than "AI" and it's a tragedy we're throwing billions into one while our government is aggressively defunding the other.

Remember, the current administration wants(ed) to kill these vaccines. They are an enemy of science and we should never forget that.
👇🎯 Your regular reminder that <no one> knows the right amount viewpoint diversity on college campuses, & there are <exactly zero> societal institutions in America with more respect for viewpoint diversity than universities. It's not even close.

Again: for any big liberal donor who wants to funnel millions into fixing this country's politics, the ROI on buying any struggling paper and simply tasking it with doing real reporting on local news is vastly higher than the same $$ given to some group that does mass ad buys every election year.
Relatedly, I’m always looking for alternative metaphors for cancer survivors—there’s a lot of warrior stuff and frankly the term “survivor” becomes more complicated as many more people live with cancer as a chronic illness. Mountaineering, astronauts— folks who do hard things.
Watching the Winter Olympics this year, it occurred to me that the fast times and sports prowess are just one part of it—these athletes are constantly recovering from injury because they push their bodies so hard.
I’m sure J.D. Vance will be “very, very” interested to learn about Vatican II, the sweeping reforms the Catholic Church undertook to address its complicity in WWII and to repair its relationship with other religions.
Wait I thought these guys like coal?
*BESSENT: A CHINESE EV IS 'A COAL-POWERED VEHICLE'
[as an aside, if you could hypothetically swap all US ICE vehicles for BEVs charged off coal plants, you'd reduce emissions because of efficiency gains]
What I haven’t seen, which is an age cohort (generational) effect, is that the Born Again movement of the 1970s-80s made white GenXers more affiliated with white evangelical churches than younger gens. And that tracks political affiliation closer than any other data point
Wouldn't it be cool to invest trillions of dollars into a technology that would actually make society better?
Maybe we can call it “HI” — Human Intelligence.
Instead of “data centers”, we could fund “schools”.
Instead of *stealing* art, literature, and science, we help people *create* it.
Crazy!
What a moment. wow.
Reminding folks that one of the first signs of Orban’s authoritarianism was his attack on universities, including closing the highly-regarded gender studies MA program at the Central European University in Budapest. That program left Hungary & continues today in Vienna.
An mRNA treatment for PANCREATIC CANCER was in trials, among many other uses. Choosing to end this research is choosing to sentence millions to an early, painful death
Just to confirm there are no upcoming due dates for proposals for SBE programs.

I’m glad there is a reported ceasefire deal with Iran. But we shouldn’t be in this illegal war in the first place. And Donald Trump can’t simply threaten war crimes with impunity. Congress needs to get back in session now to stop this war and remove Donald Trump.
If I was a member of the cabinet or Congress. I would be asking myself what I would say to my grandchildren when they asked, “what did you do when the president of the United States threatened to destroy a whole civilization?”
Washington Post Trump warns ‘a whole civilization will die’ if Iran doesn’t make a deal The president had issued a deadline of 8 p.m. Eastern time for Iran to open up the Strait of Hormuz, pledging destruction by midnight if leaders don’t comply. April 7, 2026 at 9:22 a.m. EDT26 minutes ago 2 min
Completely unstable and perilous. The House must bring up impeachment articles, and the Senate needs to remove a president who wants to commit war crimes. We cannot sit idly by as Donald Trump threatens to end an entire civilization.
Armageddon is terrible, but our only other option was diversity trainings at work.
This is very very big. Like a big deal and massive cuts. These can’t even be seen as budgetary since you don’t get much savings in the context of trillions budget. They want the US out of R&D out of science research.
Well, we social scientists *are* the most annoying for authoritarians, so badge of honor? 😫
Yikes
Not surprised but W T A F
He’s my rep! His district includes several cities and rural areas of western Massachusetts so he has always championed food security as an issue that unites his constituents.
Timeline cleanse with this birdhouse that looks like London bridge in the Tudor era.
With Trump’s proposed budget cuts for science to fund forever wars, it’s not only Iran that will be sent “back to the Stone Age”!

"At press time, representatives from the world’s leading economies had signaled that they would continue to heavily rely on fossil fuels until they had something more than an overwhelming scientific consensus to go on."
Yes—the issue is that they slice faster with less effort so you need to be mindful until you acclimate to the new mechanics
