I had a root about in my rough boulder opals earlier and spotted this one. I was surprised that I hadn't noticed the colour in it before. I'm not sure what to do with it.

I'm in total agreement. I love your art btw. Especially the Ravens, very evocative. They made me think of a place called Cwmbran where my father lived. The name means Valley of the Crows/Ravens in Welsh.
I'll live post from the festival. The image I shared was from a previous one. If you ever find yourself in Southern England in May you should go. Very inspiring for an artist.😁 youtu.be/teHZU6SSKqk?...
It's a hobby. Selling stuff takes the joy away from it. I do sell pieces occasionally for fundraisers. These things take much longer than people imagine, especially as I'm an amateur. If people haggle, I refuse to sell it to them as I don't want someone having a piece that they don't appreciate.
Beltain Festival - Butser Ancient Farm - Wicker Man - Mead fueled celebration
That works, or on the end of a staff or sceptre as a sign of high office. That's my Beltain festival outfit accessories sorted. I better get cracking. It's in 2 weeks.
Obsidian arrow head.
I've knapped flint, but not obsidian. I'll give it a go. I should probably attach a shaft to this little fella first
I'm a bit weird. I don't like selling things that I've made or fixed. I prefer to gift them to someone who really appreciates the item.
I can envisage a post-apocalyptic scene where I'm running about in rags held together with a Scottish pebble jewellery brooch, wielding an obsidian dagger. Does anyone know a good obsidian dealer?...... Anyway, I will share pics.
I found it at a car boot sale. I suppose the US equivalent is a trunk or yard sale. I felt obliged to buy it and fix it. I have no idea what I'm going to do with it afterwards. My wife doesn't like it. 🫤
Such an interesting bird, definitely deserves its own song. It sounds like a blend of Gershwin and Penguin Cafe Orchestra, but featuring a WT Sparrow and Stewart Copeland. Lovely! youtu.be/W3iASz7EnhI?...
Hmm. Initially, I thought the thing on the bottom left was a rock and took a closer look to see if I could cut and polish it.
Rough, Queensland boulder opal. Rock hounds and lapidarists fever dream!
I've got a shed load of rough boulder opal, agates & weird, wonderful stones. Way too many for me to work my way through. If anyone has stuff they want to swap, get in touch. I'm based in the UK, can ship & also travel widely for my proper job so I can post locally to reduce costs. Rock me!
I'll take another photo once I've fixed it. I tend to take my time with these things, so expect an update in 2027-8 ish. That's assuming that ww3 hasn't finished us off by then.
Brooch with agate section missing. Scottish agate, jasper and silver pebble jewellery. Victorian jewellery. Lapidary fix.
I'm fixing a broken 'Pebble Jewellery' brooch. They were made in Scotland, with Scottish stones and popularised by Queen Victoria. This one was probably made around 1890.
Love a good chunk of agate. I'm working on some Scottish agates right now.
What is it?
Nice. I can imagine it's extremely rare to find one in that condition.
I will keep an eye out for them. I think I've got a couple of victorian pen knives inlaid with mother of pearl stored away somewhere. I suppose like all collectables, they are not really worth much unless they are rare, in good condition, and there is a strong demand for them.
I grew up around antiques and collectors fairs and had no idea that pen knives were so collectable.
$900? What's it made of? Is it collectable?
This one has potential as well. I'm going to try and remove the sandy bit to reveal some colour underneath.
Boulder opal is so moreish and addictive. I've got a large stash.
I've got a thing for boulder opal at the moment.
Great post. He also inspired C. S. Forester’s Hornblower, took a supposedly impenetrable network of 7 forts with 300 men against 1,600, which broke the Spanish grip on Chile, helped liberate Brazil, & conceived a new form of chemical warfare, thankfully he was not allowed to use it. Incredible life.
How do you keep it dry and how long do you run it for? I've got a similar recorder.
Hi, do you mind me asking what you are using to record your audio? I'm keen to make audio recordings from my urban back garden and I'm exploring the options available. Any tips would be much appreciated.
Yeah if you're in London or able to get to London go to @stuhennigan.bsky.social
I hope WEaSel Streeting reads these stats. When he talks of ADHD services 'falling short' this is what it really means.
Ditto, but at 5:39am.
So...... this seems real bad.
The FBI executed a sealed search warrant today on a key Atlanta area election office - and wouldn't say what that warrant was for.
"A source told FOX the FBI was there to take custody of Fulton County election ballots from 2020."
