This is how I enjoy every aspect of culture - when people stop talking, writing, reviewing, or even mentioning the book, the movie, the song. No one wants to discuss it with me, no matter how excited I am about "discovering" it.

I will be surprised with Dems who actually have a vision and values to put forward and not more handwringing. That's for us, the people, not for those in power putzing on social media. This is tiresome and completely uninspiring.

It's funny to realize how much more time I spent on the MSP feed than the main. We never know what we miss until it's gone (temporarily, hopefully).

"Your call is important to us and we appreciate your patience. Please remain on the line."

No, I do not believe my call is important to you and I am decomposing incrementally while waiting.

I volunteered on this project, reading through hundreds of deeds. Had to stop after frying my eyeballs - lots of tiny and faint print, but loud as hell bigotry.

The Not-Quite States of America 'To truly understand the United States, one must understand the 'not-quite states of America.' —Mark Stein, best-selling author of How the States Got Their Shapes, The Not-Quite States ...

Reading @douglasmack.bsky.social's The Not-Quite States of America: Dispatches from the Territories and Other Far-Flung Outposts of the USA.
A great geography lesson & as ever, when reading American history, a realization of how anemic my American history knowledge is.

I am skeptical of polls in general for 2 reasons. Data can be manipulated in a thousand different ways - and for the irrational reason that in 58 years of being on this planet, I have never been polled for anything. Who are these people reaching with their qustions?

I am always baffled by my generation (GenX). Then I think about the people I grew up with. Reagan worship, religion, all those rapey teen movies (looking at you, John Hughes), & greed elevated as success. All my similarly-aged friends are progressives. I don't have that many friends.

I was raised evangelical and saw "Thief in the Night" when I was 10. That movie had me afraid every morning for the next few years, looking to see if my family were still in the house when I got up.

I try to focus less energy how much I hate this administration with an eye to focusing on the work to be done to counter it. But for nearly every one of us, there is a personal impact of the sheer malevolence and incompetence we live under. Watching my daughter, who was conscientiously raised to be

A Visit to Our Meanest Relative Can Only End in Tears - Electric Literature “Nuts” by Katie Schorr, recommended by Halimah Marcus for Electric Literature

Started morning off reading "Nuts" by Katie Schorr @electricliterature.com. Nothing like being metaphorically stabbed in the heart. Great intro by Editor Halimah Marcus. "Sadie is the default peacekeeper, hyper-aware of everyone’s comfort level except her own."

I find venturing out into the social media wilds is tough enough without being left hanging out there like a doofus.

I am in the habit of deleting original posts or responses to posts if there's no interaction (likes or replies) after a day. It might not be the space for me or I've said something un-useful or I'm muted. I think it takes awhile to find real people who do want to engage, but

Barely-contained misogyny is hard to camouflage when these stories come out. Who people are vs what they say they are quickly becomes apparent.

In the midwest, roundabouts have been put in some of the weirdest locations - roads with little traffic, in the middle of suburban neighborhoods, on rural roads. Throw in MN "nice" where people sit at 4-way stops politely waiting for someone else to go - tends to make roundabout encounters awkward.

Uxorial - Etymology, Origin & Meaning "of or pertaining to a wife, peculiar to or befitting a married woman," 1778, from Latin… See origin and meaning of uxorial.

I'm an etymology nerd, so of course I had to look it up. Based on uxorial, I think.

Listening to an Amos Lee song and thought for a moment he sang "All my friends are breaking wind".
The actual ones are a real bummer: "All my friends have broken wings."
Synchronized farting or misery has company.
Choose your adventure.
