A close-up view from the Orion spacecraft during the Artemis II crew’s lunar flyby on April 6, 2026, captures a total solar eclipse, with only part of the Moon visible in the frame as it fully obscures the Sun. Although the full lunar disk extends beyond the image, the Sun’s faint corona remains visible as a soft halo of light around the Moon’s edge. From this deep-space vantage point, the Moon appeared large enough to sustain nearly 54 minutes of totality, far longer than total solar eclipses typically seen from Earth. This cropped perspective emphasizes the scale of the alignment and reveals subtle structure in the corona during the rare, extended eclipse observed by the crew. The bright silver glint on the left edge of the image is the planet Venus. The round, dark gray feature visible along the Moon’s horizon between the 9 and 10 o’clock positions is Mare Crisium, a feature visible from Earth. We see faint lunar features because light reflected off of Earth provides a source of illumination.

it is totally reasonable to say at 88 you can have literally any job in the world that will hire you except one of the less than 1000 jobs that put you in charge of the fate of the country
ladies be doing cinematography, we love to see it
The way Ed Harris looked at Amy Madigan when her name was read was one of the most beautiful things. Just sheer love and pride and trust and oh my god I’m already welling up.
People are losing the spirit of the Ides of March. It's not about just stabbing. It's about coming together to stab in groups
“why aren’t young people protesting”
usually if you ask experts why an empire fell they’ll say it’s nuanced and multifaceted, so i think it’s kind of cool that with America future historians will get to just say like “oh they took the idiot train to moronsville”
don’t forget to destroy your clocks tonight, walk away from your mortgage, just start driving, you’re free
This obviously very stupid but is it also smart? We’ll talk to some liars after this break.
the "just asking questions" to "legitimate questions about fairness in sports" to "the state doesn't have to consider us as real people" pipeline working exactly as designed.
my only single complaint about this banger of a halftime show is that it just always looks better when it's dark out
it goes without saying but I don't think the 3rd richest person on the planet is destroying the prestige newspaper he bought because of the finances of the newspaper business
"I am a children's entertainer who specializes in face painting," writes a woman now in hiding from the federal government for witnessing a state-sanctioned street execution
these videos have raised more than $180,000(!) for a variety of urgent causes over the last few years.
this year i'm once again supporting the Palestine Children's Relief Fund, whose work is tragically as vital as ever. please consider giving if you can!

No better example than what happened in the Bay Area when progressive DAs and mayors got elected circa 2020. We were inundated with the SF doom loop beat and stories about the shoplifting epidemic that wasn’t (which got a person killed), which ended in a wave of recalls of said progressive electeds.
An all time great 😢
WNBA website is listing tonight's Valkyries attendance as 18,543. That becomes the new all-time best reported attendance for a non-Finals postseason WNBA game.
Including Finals games, it's the 9th-highest postseason game attendance in league history.

in light of the kimmel news, just a reminder that a few days ago a prominent fox news host literally called for killing homeless people. right afterward, someone shot up a couple homeless encampments.
that fox news host still has his job.
I can't remember the details, and can't find them now, for my favorite Robert Redford anecdote, but: When Indecent Proposal was being discussed, someone asked a film critic if she would sleep with Robert Redford for $1 million, and she replied, "Yes, but where would I get the money?"
Robert Redford is rightly being remembered for his work as an actor and director, as he well should be. But let's also not forget his lifetime achievement in being a complete smokeshow. Just hotness through the years.
Part of what keeps America so violent is the insistence that people perform care, empty goodness and absolution for white men who espouse hatred and violence.
I’m not sure what saying “things are about to get much worse” serves. It’s true but it’s also sort of always true when you’re in the midst of constant escalation. Things will keep getting much worse and I cling to the hope that maybe one day they will get much better.
I don’t owe anyone my sympathy in death who actively advocated against humanity in life. You don’t get to cheer for a violent world and then ask for my sympathies when the world is the wrong kind of violent.
It’s not mean or unkind to live in reality. Lament the state of our political discourse, but don’t give our reality-based truths away to someone’s misfortune or tragedy. Does anyone deserve to get shot for being cruel? Not necessarily. But being a cruel person who gets shot doesn’t make you good.
Utah was the first state to allow open carry on campus. A would-be assailant could walk right onto campus armed as they please and nobody could’ve done a thing about it.
