For more of our thoughts on the topic I also want to highlight again our review article, where we discuss many of the questions that led to this project: www.nature.com/articles/s41...

I am very grateful to my coauthors for all their insight and contributions: @antisense.bsky.social from the @lucksmith.bsky.social lab, @kaixianliu.bsky.social as well as Min Lu and Momar Diop. I really learned a lot during this work!
The main project of my postdoc with @spo11rulz.bsky.social is now available on bioRxiv! By systematically integrating structural information with molecular evolution analyses, we gained new fascinating insights into the evolution of key meiotic recombination proteins: www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1...
I am very happy to share that after six years in New York with @spo11rulz.bsky.social, I have recently started a new position as a postdoctoral researcher in the @cavazzalab.bsky.social in Zurich. Very excited about moving my research from meiosis towards early embryo development in ๐ฎ!
Tricky questions and challenging discussions, but I hope we communicated the importance of basic developmental biology research and social context when it comes to the #futureoffertility #ivf Available wherever you get your podcasts! ๐ค www.lnk.to/AQOSFertilit...
As the U.S. slashes spending on science and restricts immigration, China and Europe are offering researchers money and stability.

Good, nerdy vibes in Washington Square Park today. So great to see people showing their support for basic research and academic freedom! #standupforscience2025
Swiss news article on the current attacks on Science in the US. Thanks @republik.ch for covering this and also for mentioning the upcoming @standupforscience.bsky.social protests!

Happy Sunday egg-ficionados! Here are the latest papers on #oocyte cell biology for you: biomed.news/bims-cebooc/...
This week's highlight are the three (!) Nature papers on the mechanism of DNA DSB initiation during meiotic recombination!

Happy new year everyone!
We are please to announce the return of MAYosis in 2025!
Every Wednesday in May at 4pm CET, come hear the latest #meiosis4ever stories!

Gender monitoring at the Department of Biology at ETH shows a gradual increase of women at professor levels between 2014 and 2023.
As an example a comparison of the Department of Biology at ETHZ in 2014 (the year I started my PhD) and 2023.
I love to see this type of data. Having obtained most of my education in Zurich I also recommend having a look at the gender monitoring of ETHZ and UZH. It is very interactive and great to look at from time to time to see if and how fast/slow the โ๏ธ are closing. #WomeninSTEM
Shoutout to the unknown artist and their work in the mskcc elevator this morning ๐
Experimental results showing DNA break formation by purified SPO11 protein. Above is an image of an electrophoresis gel, below is a graph showing quantification of the DNA cleaving activity
Hi Bluesky. For my first post, I'd like to advertise the latest preprint from my lab, describing at long last our reconstitution of SPO11-dependent double-strand break formation from purified recombinant proteins. Outstanding work from PhD student Zhi (Zack) Zheng.
