I spent many hours of my childhood at Record Theatres in Buffalo, tagging along with my dad. Good times. RIP Record Theatre.

I've had this on the "on deck shelf" for about a week so it seems right to put it on now for his birthday.
Wishing a very happy 77th birthday to Big Youth ๐!

Gonna be eagerly watching my mailbox next week for the new Funkentelechy reissue. I've been hearing good things about it. Apparently the label that put it out also reproduced the comic book that came with the OG.

Just listening to this again and it sounds fine. No redux needed. His recordings were actually some of the best-recorded of all the early blues stuff.
Had a weird urge to put on this absolutely beautiful NM original US pressing again for the first time in at least 10 years. Is it still good? No man can say, but it's not bad.
I got a CD from the library 20 years ago that had this track on it. I was hooked. Finally got it on vinyl last year. Play loud.

This Pressure Sounds expanded reissue with the dubs is essential. Buy on sight.
The Prophets - Conquering Lion (1975)
I'm not a spiritual person but if there's a gun to my head i'm picking Rastafari, the religion with the best weed and the best tunes.
I also like Penthouse.
I think it's their best. fwiw it easily survived my big 200 rock record purge.
"What if Godzilla was a crab? Hey, i'm just spitballing here."
Luna - Bewitched (1994)
Up next, an album with a cover tailor-made for one of those "this is where i post from" things
This album cover is wild.
TIL that Bingy Bunny went from guitar with The Morwells to guitar with the Revolutionaries. Probably explains why this rules.
The Morwells - Crab Race (1978)
Steal of the week: new and sealed for 16 bucks (Cdn). Another great Morwells record. Gotta get their dub LP next. Hot shit here.
NBD just a HQ recording of Robert Johnson's Cross Road Blues test pressing made from metal plates in 1940.

Love this story from Craig Robertson's Chris Knox bio about how an Auckland punk band learned to play "Anarchy in the UK" by taping the short bits that aired in a news segment off of the TV and just playing those parts. (Try to explain this to a young person today haha)

One of J Spaceman's best tunes.

Spiritualized - Sweet Heart, Sweet Light (2012)
Happy Friday. Kicking off my night with an underappreciated joint. Not sure how other fans rate this one but I always thought it was a return to fine form after a couple of so-so outings. Saw them on this tour and it ruled.
holy flurking schnit!
Signing off with the Skatalites doing "Malcolm X," which the jazz-attuned ears will recognize as a ska version of Lee Morgan's "The Sidewinder."

True.
Calling the meek and the humble, welcome to blackboard jungle. So don't you fumble, just be humble.
Been eyeing that Bim record. A little pricey though.
