Posts by London Loo Alliance
We were on Channel 5 News last night and guess what we were talking about? Toilets!
It was great to be joined by Cornelius from Loos for Islington, sharing his own challenges when trying to find a public toilet.
You can watch the full feature in the videos below ⬇️
New research from alliance members, @rsph.bsky.social ⬇️
This aligns with @ageuklondon.bsky.social's research showing that in the last decade, three times as many public toilets have been closed by local authorities as have been opened.
London continues to be a hotspot for loo deserts...
Kilburn Older Voices Exchange (KOVE), an Alliance member, have produced this fantastic film, exploring efforts to improve public toilet provision on Kilburn High Road.

📢Ahead of the local authority elections on 7th May, we are proud to publish our London Loo Alliance manifesto.

I've written to Sec of State, Steve Reed MP calling for a statutory duty for councils to provide public toilets and for govt to commit ring fenced funding.
Access to public toilets is a public health issue as the @londonlooalliance.bsky.social will attest.

Good to see progress in North London, with Brent Council pledging £150k for new public toilets in Roundwood Park - all thanks to tireless work from local campaigners ⬇️

We recently responded to the Overnight Visitor Levy consultation, which we broadly support.
It seems sensible for councils to receive a significant proportion of the levy - we believe a proportion of revenue generated should be allocated towards the provision of public toilets 🚽
@brixtonbuzz.bsky.social Recent changes to the Radar key system at accessible toilets in Brixton Village now require disabled people to call a phone number for someone to unlock the door - "accessibility should not depend on whether someone picks up the phone"

Thank you to @krupesh.co.uk for raising the issue of anti-social behaviour and what action is being taken to stop toilets being vandalised on the TfL network and subsequently closed 🚽

The Alliance will continue to campaign for improved public toilet provision across the transport network, and the rest of the city. This includes having truly accessible facilities so everyone can navigate the transport network with confidence.
Great to see @hinabokharild.bsky.social asking the Mayor about the total number of toilets at Tube stations that have been closed permanently since January 2021 🚽

An image of a long corridor of public toilet cubicles with metal doors on the right, blue walls, and pink pillars. On the left are handwashing basins. At the bottom of the picture overlapping the image of the toilets is a dark blue background with text reading 'Refurbished toilets at Piccadilly Circus Station📢'
📢Westminster City Council has completed its latest public toilet refurbishment at the Piccadilly Circus Underground Station.
🔍Upgraded male and female toilets, a family changing toilet, and baby-changing amenities within both male and female areas.
📍Toilets located at Exit 1 of the station.
Congratulations Jo-Anne and Gail!
Great thread @kappacino1.bsky.social . We agree. Local authorities, public bodies and the government need to take the lack of provision seriously. This is an issue of public health, inclusion and more.
Strategies can provide a framework for local authorities to coordinate the actions needed to improve public toilet provision locally. Strategies can offer a more joined-up approach for auditing and evaluating current provision, listening to residents and making decisions based on need 🚽
A photo of a mix of 6 people, men and women, holding a large banner saying 'Loos for Haringey'. Below is a dark blue background overlapping the photo with white text reading 'Haringey Council have published their Toilet Strategy and Action Plan📢'
Haringey Council is now one of four London councils with a published toilet strategy and action plan 📢
This would not have been possible without the tireless campaigning of Loos for Haringey, supported by John Miles from KOVE, an Alliance Member.

New Morden station toilets are open! 🙌🚽Thank you to campaigners on the Alliance, More Loos for Merton, @carolinerussell.bsky.social @ageuklondon.bsky.social and others.
An image of the doors of two toilets. One door has two signs - one reading 'Baby changing' and the other saying 'All gender toilet'. The other toilet door depicting baby changing facilities and accessible toilets. At the bottom of the photo is white text on a blue background reading 'New toilets at Morden Station'
The inside of an accessible toilet, includes a sink, toilet, grab rails and a bin.
New toilets now open at Morden Underground station - including a gender-neutral toilet, an accessible toilet and baby-changing facilities 🚽
We hope this momentum continues alongside work to increase awareness about the locations of toilets 👀

The lack of public toilets (let alone accessible ones) in central London is a disgrace
