Here's a bit more about the zine:
Spanning surreal landscapes and time, FLUENCY transports readers to dystopian futures, haunted houses, and the intimate life of a baby-snatching fae. The eight short stories blend elements of horror and myth into their narratives. 2/3

Willem Dafoe on the Art of Surrender Four decades into the actor’s career, he is more curious about his craft than ever.

Prose, too, is like this: “Cinema is not just about telling stories. Everybody clings to this. Telling stories, telling stories, telling stories! It’s about light. It’s about space. It’s about tone. It’s about color.…” www.vulture.com/article/will...

A Testimonials Graphic that reads: Finding your flash

EVERYTHING. I loved the two example stories, the instructor was FANTASTIC, I loved being able to interact and work with my classmates, and the environment was so supportive. As a first-time Folk School student, the entire experience was wonderful. Everyone was so welcoming and friendly and made me feel like I was in the right place.

It was lively. I got what I'd hoped: a jump start on a writing project.

[The Instructor was] supportive and knowledgeable! Her teaching style is relaxed which I LOVE — I never felt like she was talking down to us. I also love the opportunity for feedback and that she provided prompts that can be used to submit stories now — very thoughtful approach!

Very supportive and made the writing accessible. The handout and slides were nice. Lots of examples from pop culture and whatnot. Great overview of what makes a story a story. Approachable and easy to ask questions. Good facilitator.

We learned so much about writing and point of view. I liked the short clippings from books provided. They were very insightful. I also liked hearing how the class and instructor dissected the content after. Great conversations!

She laid out everything in a clear way, let us go to it, and invited us to share.

Haley was so insightful! I also love how she made space for everyone to be heard. She is a wonderful teacher and I hope to take another class with her.

Inclusive, supportive atmosphere

Haley, the instructor of this writing/point of view class, should teach more classes! 10/10

I felt at ease with her. Confident in her approach to the subject and her presence

Good morning a thing I would encourage you all to do is look into your kettles before boiling them in case there is a spider inside, this message brought to you by having quite narrowly avoided making spider tea

From a marketing perspective, how important is it (do you think) that your title is easy to pronounce / is a familar word?

When you work from home but also talk with ur hands thus making ur digital background glitch in and out

Your boss: Is that a skeleton behind you?

Me: yes. Yes it is...

It's been a good year. And a good year of books.
Here’s to another trip around the sun and another turn of the pages.
Happy 2024 🎉

I was in Chicago when I finished Gideon the Ninth. Walking Practice and The Deep Sky were part of my internship with Brink. Bad Kids I read after going to a boozy book fair with a friend. I listened to In Defense of Witches on my daily commute to work.

So if tracking the number isn’t important, why do I do it? My favorite thing about seeing my year wrapped up in books is remembering where I was or what I was doing when reading.

I hope if you read this year, any number of books, large or small, you found some pleasure in the written word, the characters you encountered, the places you discovered.
