Yeah. It sucks because my kindle works fine, even if it is 14 years old. But an android eink tablet could load the Libby app natively and bypass all of that. So maybe someday.

Calibre has a DeDRM plugin but it can’t read ACSM files, so you have to unwrap it in ADE anyways. I use Calibre to manage and transfer the ePub to the device since it can clean up the metadata if I need and convert it to whatever format plays nicest.

So renting library books from Libby and getting them on my Kindle while avoiding the Amazon store is possible, no jailbreak required. Requires you do download the ACSM file from Libby, put it into Adobe Digital Editions on a computer, ADE unwraps the file and makes an ePub you can put on the Kindle.

Utah legalized balcony solar so I could add 2kw without having to redo my net metering contract. That and a battery should help since I ride the train mostly.
