Why are we helping them rip the rest of us off? Why are we helping them walk all over us?

No billionaire earned their money by themselves. They made it standing on the backs of the rest of us. There is no such thing as pulling yourself up all on your lonesome by your own bootstraps. All these people got help.

I want a world where we recognize and fight against manipulation that serves the power-hungry, and we put them in their place—level with the rest of us.

I want a world where we create the conditions that support all people to be sovereigns over themselves, the freedom to live into their values, to learn and explore, to achieve their highest potential.

It is in fact what gives us our very freedom to pursue life, liberty, and happiness. Freedom is an inexhaustible resource. One person’s freedom does not threaten mine. In fact, when you and all my neighbors are free, I am more free.

The real enemy are the tyrant, the authoritarian and the oligarch who are manipulating all of us in order to concentrate power in their hands, a government that provides social safety nets for all of its people is not a wasteful, fraudulent government.

We all need to wake up and reclaim ourselves. Our ethnic heritage, our real culture and our values, and see that the enemy is not people who are different from us—people of color, indigenous people, People in prison, poor people, the unhoused…

Social programs that actually benefit us and have benefited our ancestors are now seen by white people as waste fraud and abuse because they’ve been linked to racist ideas. Racism is real but it was created to serve and distract from class inequality.

From there it was easy to manipulate White people to see government, social safety nets, criminal justice, economic justice, as programs only needed by these “lazy”, “criminal” others and not by us (white folks).

White people have been taught to see Africans, Indigenous people, people of color du jour (who is in and who is out has changed a bit, depending on the times) as lazy and criminal.

The wealthy and powerful few realized they could increase their wealth and power by pitting groups of people against each other and thereby distracting us from the real project at hand.

Racist ideas were created by the powerful and wealthy to hold onto their power and wealth.

Books like Ibram X Kendi’s Stamped from the Beginning & Timothy Snyder’s On Freedom are giving me the framework to understand what we are experiencing in this country right now and why it is so imperative that we each take action every day. There is no room to wait it out. Not if we want to be free.
