Graphs are fine, but I always asked "did P or Q go up or down" and never by how much. But making D and S equations and having them solve intersections doesn't build intuition, and you get swamped there instead of showing people "externalities create DWL" and "subsidies and taxes can fix things"
So many people have a bitter taste in their mouth about economics because their first class just became an algebra class. My intro prof in college had almost no math other than calculating elasticities, and focused solely on intuition. This is the way.
