What a leftwing leader needs to do to earn credibility | Letters Letters: Readers respond to an article by Owen Jones in which he says the left needs a figurehead who can bring back alienated voters and avoid culture wars

My letter in @theguardian.com today on what the leadership of a progressive party needs to do so we have a fighting chance of a decent future. (Hint: end neoliberalism & privatisation, tax the very, very rich, and invest in our common future).

This is a start, but it's not good enough. Face + 30% will still be attractive to some touts, and again, fans lose out.

Ireland's laws ban resale above face value. That's exactly what we should replicate.

an image with quotation marks and text saying: PCS general secretary Fran Heathcote said: “Our members are fed up with being treated like second class citizens in government buildings.

“They deliver vital services to keep civil service departments running effectively yet are forced onto the Real Living Wage/London Living Wage, receive no company sick pay and receive just the statutory minimum annual leave.

“Ministers must intervene in this dispute to ensure our members receive the pay, terms and conditions they deserve because the contractors, Government Property Agency and Ministers have a role to play in delivering a settlement to these disputes.”

Navigating care for my mum is a nightmare that’s only gonna get tougher. Labour’s delaying tactics appall me. What exactly is the point of this government?

& let’s remember something else about “social” care. A lot of it is really medical & used to be part of NHS. “Social”=“chargeable”=“mess”

Northern's performance is awful, but I'm not convinced that the Mayors collectively taking control is the solution.

Northern will have been under public control for 5 years come March. Only LNER (2018) will have been for longer.

Six month in to a Labour Govt, and still no sign of improvement.
