Yesterday I spoke at a high school in Calgary, giving the students a quick rundown of my creative career and things I wish I'd known when I was their age.

Here's a summary of key points I covered:

• My career is nothing like what I envisioned when I was young, but key parts of it shaped my future.

Season 2 uses the same theme. Season 3 is a big overhaul in tone, set, open credits.

Whenever I go out to watch for shooting stars, it’s usually this theme and the season 3/first contact theme on my headphones.

For a while, I had considered trying to draw this IN the style of the Voltron cartoon, but since these guys are only occasionally recurring characters, I wanted to make sure they were recognizable. Well, at least to folks who read this comic regularly.

I am reading these books aloud to my partner and I do all the voices….Istvhan is Antonio Banderas in my head, so….this line has a bunch of Puss in Boots attitude….

Highlander: The Source can go fk off. Starts bad. Keeps getting bad. Just all fkking bad.

“Highlander Endgame” felt like the best sequel, as a transition to the next Macleod, but the villain story was botched, and ultimately dismissed. (The DVD had an early alternate cut with some other details, and in some ways is more gratifying.)

“Highlander 2” felt like…”well, what if we made the first movie but more science-fiction than fantasy.

“Highlander 3”…again, kind of a remake of the first one. I like the training/forging sequences, all set to “Bonny Portmore”…

Whatever will be said about sequels, I don’t hate them, for various reasons. I saw “Highlander 2” first, and didn’t hate it—but a friend gave me the first one on VHS, which was much more gratifying. So, seeing them out of order made me appreciate the original more….
