I tried Turkish delight for the first time today. It was otherwise unremarkable, but the rosewater aftertaste was such a Proustian moment that brought to mind images of my grandparent's furniture, living room, chinaware, and neighborhood markets. It was good but not betray-my-siblings good.

The economic ruin wrought upon us is an asset to the authoritarian because it weakens the economic thereby political power of the people while consolidating theirs. Don’t expect an uprising when things get “bad enough,” because we will be so demoralized and desperate with no power left to resist.
As any economist who's not Peter Navarro will tell you, a tariff will:
1. transfer part of your wealth to uncompetitive corporations
2. convert part of your wealth into gov't revenue and thereby relieving the tax burden on corporations
3. lose a part of your wealth into the void as deadweight loss
@signal.org bills itself as a means to shield private citizens from government surveillance, so it's beyond ironic how it turned that out our government is using it to evade accountability from its citizens.
The biomass of all humans alive, in our living density, is just under the volume of a cube half mile long, high, and wide. Rolled into a meatball, it would be about 500 meters in diameter. The world's largest building by volume is the Boeing Everett Factory and we'll fill up just under 40 of them.
The DOGE infiltration of IRS will allow this administration and its corporate handlers to target, harass, blackmail, prosecute, and silence any American dissident with the slightest financial and tax irregularity.

Mass deportation is about two things:
1. A mass transfer of public wealth into hands of the private prison industry
2. Driving remaining immigrants further underground so they will accept even more exploitative terms of employment
It's never about getting your jobs back or your keeping you safe.
