The Napa Boys Movie poster
Out on streaming this 4/20 is The Napa Boys, a film with a very high concept to match its micro budget. A surprising satire for the age of endless franchises—mocking of American Pie spinoffs, Lord of the Rings, and much more. As the Napa Boys would say, “To The Grape!”

Booker is complaining about people who didn’t support Harris enough just because they disagree on 10% of the issues (the issues includes genocide and the mass murder of children). Ironically, Booker’s long support for Israel’s apartheid government is in disagreement with about 90% of Dem voters

The reason you don’t have nostalgia for a cool indie rental place that stocked interesting foreign films or Criterion discs was because Blockbuster spent billions sabotaging all the cool places all across America. They were a hideous dragon eventually eaten by a newer, bigger dragon named Netflix

No blame to anyone unfortunately grew up in one of the many American towns that only had Blockbuster and not even a competing corporate chain like Hollywood Video. When Blockbuster is all you know, it’s your nostalgia without knowing how much was denied to you by that truly awful corporation

By the time I started at Blockbuster in 2004, it had shut down every competitor in my suburban Florida town. When I moved to Berkeley, CA in 2006, I finally lived where a couple places survived Blockbuster’s war on independent rental places. Of course, that was when Netflix was killing the industry

Video Rental Store Nostalgia = Generally Good
Specifically Blockbuster Nostalgia = Terribly Misplaced If Not Entirely Bad
I worked for years at both a Blockbuster and a mom & pop local rental place. Blockbuster was the devil that killed every cool video store it could via monopolistic practices

I saw that one back in 2007, but the rest were only seen theatrically this time around. Still got to see Tokyo Godfathers and Memories in theaters to complete the filmography

Had a night of Popcorn Classics with a triple feature of Satoshi Kon films. SIFF Downtown only had a poster up for Perfect Blue, but before that I saw Millennium Actress and Paprika with pretty full audiences
