In case you missed it, a couple of weeks ago a blog went up from @pnjackson.bsky.social on our site - looking at how the extreme right make use of dogwhistles, hiding their messages within what may be common language that for them has layered meanings. www.northampton.ac.uk/research-blo...

The latest blog is up! Following on from Prof. Paul Jackson's look at dogwhistles, Dr Dan Jones talks about how the extreme right have engaged with environmentalism - using mainstream language to cloak concept-dense narratives. www.northampton.ac.uk/research-blo...
Today our seminar is by the great Kate McCoubrey, exploring the Women's Division of the British Movement and activity in the Welsh Borderlands. You can read her great recent (open access) piece at compass.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/pdfdirec...

Fantastic first ERRN Seminar of 2026, with the brilliant Dr Ben Lee exploring the evolution of violent subcultures. Really fascinating talk, and lots to think about both in terms of how we conceptualise these groups for research, and also how we tackle them via practical intervention.
One of the great activists and instrumental in bringing @searchlightarchive.bsky.social to @uninorthampton.bsky.social
Gerry Gable, long-time editor of Searchlight, sadly died last weekend. The work of Gerry and his comrades forms our Searchlight Collection, the heart of the Searchlight Archive, and we are honoured to continue his legacy in some small way. Rest well, Gerry. www.northampton.ac.uk/news/remembe...
Welcome to MATER (Medievalists Against the Extreme Right), an offshoot of the @errnetwork.bsky.social at @uninorthampton.bsky.social. The network is run by @menysnoweballes.bsky.social. Get in touch for details of meetings and events.
Really delighted that the initiative we are running with the University Archives under @uninorthampton.bsky.social Centre for Historical Studies to bring together and support local groups working with or around archives and collections got featured in This Year In Archives! Find us in the Midlands!
In @errnetwork.bsky.social's latest blog post @siobhanhyland.bsky.social explains how she's working on my British Academy/Leverhulme Trust funded project as a research assistant: www.northampton.ac.uk/research-blo... 🗃️
This week's archive image - one of a number of pictures held in the archive around the Spearhead group and their activities. As well as these, pictures also cover them lounging in the grass with their legs kicked up, lectures from Colin Jordan, and a rather bored looking audience.
The @searchlightarchive.bsky.social, part of the Extreme Right Research Network, is starting posting archive items every week - last week they shared this still from a digitised Super8 film, the outcome of a digitisation project supported by the University of Northampton's Research Directorate

Mark Wilson, our partner from Dudley Council, is talking the workshop through the practicalities of managing the extreme right, exploring the response to the 2024 Riots. A fascinating insight into how our work can inform work, and how our partners operate.

Our @errnetwork.bsky.social event Addressing the Extreme Right event has kicked off with world expert in fascism Roger Griffin talking to us about defining extremism.
Great to be at the @errnetwork.bsky.social Addressing the Extreme Right Threat workshop day. @pnjackson.bsky.social just announcing our new website, soon to have podcasts. Running a @searchlightarchive.bsky.social stall, including some classic copies of @searchlightmag.bsky.social
Fancy a last minute trip to Northampton on Friday to discuss combatting the extreme right? We've got a couple of travel bursaries left - if this would help you attend do get in touch, we'd love to have you here.
Just a week until this event organised by @pnjackson.bsky.social @menysnoweballes.bsky.social and myself. Still a few tickets left, and time to alter the catering, so do get in touch. We also have a couple of £75 travel bursaries left if it helps people attend.
We have 4x£75 travel bursaries available for PGRs, ECRs and precarious researchers for this event. Just drop an email to daniel.jones@northampton.ac.uk if you would like more information. And you can book until early next week, but we are getting low on tickets! Link in original post.
GREAT news - we have a slight budget surplus on this event so we are able to offer 4 x £75 travel bursaries to PGRs/ECRs/other precariously employed researchers: so if you'd like to join us in Northampton for the day, contact @narson.bsky.social on daniel.jones@northampton.ac.uk.
On the 6th of June we are hosting our first summer workshop - a day of talks from academics, practitioners and cultural figures to explore the extreme right and their impacts. Tickets are free, lunch is provided, and it should be a fantastic day.

Along with the University Archive we will be hosting the Northamptonshire Archives and Collections meetup on the 31st of July at 2pm - every 6 months we meet up, have cake and tea, and discuss what is going on with our local heritage groups and how we can support them.
Cup of tea held in front of a university courtyard with trees and bushes
Day 1 done in the archives for my British Academy project today with @siobhanhyland.bsky.social who is my RA and @narson.bsky.social the @searchlightarchive.bsky.social archivist! I can’t show you any of the archive material here as it’s horrible extremist stuff, so here is my archive tea break.
It now has an online shop: shop.northampton.ac.uk/product-cata...
