Brits love a ban.
Manhood?
Meant.
Sigh. Not the best typo
Not enough focus is on reducing toil.
Toil is taxing, valueless and depressing as it drains you of motivation.
Same if you’re just trying to do your job or get your landlord to fix your toilet.
It’s the same at most / many businesses over a certain size. You spend more time managing the process than doing valuable work.
But death of a 1000 cuts doesn’t really show up in productivity data except as “low productivity” eventually.
This is a thread about poor/low productivity.
It’s manhood example as it’s both understandable and a sign of something systematic with no obvious fix.
Well the toilet has an obvious fix. The process to get the toilet fixed does not.
And shows up in water bills eventually.
I have just shy of a million miles left after maybe using 5 million from a beneficial scheme.
As you say tremendously valuable and at zero cost to the firm
It’s a really cheap way of giving employees a perk.
Cheaper to let the airlines carry the cost than to pay more.
Plus always nice to be able to take your partner somewhere for free and you feel good
The FBI Director, the DC US Attorney, and the Secretary of Defense walk into a bar.
Apparently like every day.
I have a box of smart thermostats to install. Been like 6 months.
Like mastodon is getting any more time to figure out.
Mastodon was good in theory but basically it’s not designed for people to be on easily so like “the year of the desktop” will never happen.
Pity as some people I find interesting are on their.
But I’m too old for it to be worth the effort.
Hegsworth is every over promoted over inflated ego middle manager most of us have worked for at some point.
But with actually about to do evil.
Long history from “the war is going great you’re just reporting it badly” when a war is going badly.
Equally a long history of “the war is actually going badly but it’s being reporting it as all fine” when the war is going badly.
Hegsworth lives in the first. Wants to be in the second like 🇷🇺
You’ll never stop people objecting.
You need to change the system to really just allow more mistakes on being able to build and it was a wrong choice than the block building.
People will just literally object yo anything and everything.
Friends of mine still have tinned apricot from the pandemic
Trying to explain St Augustine to the pope, the former head of the Augustinian order, who wrote his doctoral thesis on Augustine, on his way back from celebrating mass at the Basilica of St Augustine in Annaba, Algeria, overlooking the site where Augustine lived is peak Adult Catholic Convert.
“You’re calling me immoral? Well, how about I cancel care for children need, who’s immoral now?”
Explains what he's doing in clear terms, what the rationale is, who wins, who loses.
Mamdani delivers a master class every time in how to communicate politically.
God forbid a man have hobbies
The Roundhouse? Man I saw them when they were still cool at the Underworld.
If Thug Pigeons isn't the name of a punk band, I don't even know why we're bothering anymore.
1/6 🧵The Pope has put his finger on Trump’s greatest weakness on foreign policy. With his narcissistic delusion of omnipotence, he doesn’t understand how Great Powers maintain hegemony. Along with Hegseth he thinks it’s all a matter of brute force. Alliances, diplomacy & soft power are ‘woke’.
This is why Russia is still fighting, why the war continues and why people are dying: Because Trump and Vance encouraged Putin to believe he could win
The vice president, who is a plastic Catholic …
it's probably worth restating that if the outcome of the 1918-1947 civil conflict in palestine had been up to the brits, we would now be living in a world where the middle east is dominated by the united kingdom of israel, palestine and transjordan, ruled by HM Abdullah-Avdiel of the banu Hashim
although I see some of one house turned into two locally there’s not that much.
And my god are their objections to any sort of destruction under the guise of “save our historic market town” (I’m in Kingston, London) and preserve the character of the road.
Let everyone build 2 extra stories.
Middle of an interesting thread.
My view is we need all three. Build on brown. Build on green. Creative destruction on existing properties too.
When we’re doing all three we can argue about the balance.
We seems to be doing very little of all three.
I like Ed Davey but this is what happens when all your elections are by election strategies.
This comes up all the time locally (he’s my MP).
There’s a solution for “get an increased population size to pay for doctors” (and schools and post offices and trash and parks)
It’s called “tax”
