I get that this tactic has costs and I wish it didn't, but my logic is that most of my tax avoidance strategies only delay the payment until a later administration, which will spend more of the money on good stuff instead of bad stuff
I still pay med/oasdi, that's different from federal income tax.
Shortly after the Trump 2 inauguration I went to an organizer training event. One of the main goals was clearly to get the attendees used to the idea of seeking, holding, and using power. It was clearly necessary too, some of the us had a "power corrupts, better to avoid it" type attitude going in
Agree with your point, but under Trump it is prosocial to not pay federal taxes. I'm on a (completely legal) tax strike for the duration, using every trick I can to get to the bottom of the 12% bracket
It was completely accurate for a few months in 1959 (between Alaskan and Hawaiian statehood)
If you were homeschooled, please take this survey about how your experience impacted outcomes afterwards! And share widely--CRHE is trying to get 1,000 participants.

There's a natural follow-up: "High-profile mass shootings are enabled by semiautomatic weapons with detachable magazines. Would you restrict these? What characteristics of guns should regulations focus on?"
Want to ask this person whether a bear shits in the woods
I’m holding the Senate floor tonight in protest of legislation that would allow a copper-nickel sulfide mine on the doorstep of the Boundary Waters.
Not this mine. Not this place.
Last tracks of the season (probably. There’s rain in the forecast)
The “Calvin’s dad explains two types” meme, inspired by a Calvin and Hobbes cartoon. Clockwise from top left: 1) Calvin’s dad walks into frame to find Calvin trying to operate a record player. The dad says: “There are only two industries left in America: gambling, and fraud.” 2) The dad shows where the record goes, and how to turn on the player, while Calvin watches. Dad says “Derivatives? Gambling. AI? Fraud. Video games? Gambling. Social media? Fraud.” Calvin says “yeah”. 3) With one hand open palm up, Calvin’s dad cheerfully explains to Calvin out of frame below him, “The stock market looks like gambling, but it’s actually fraud.” 4) In bed in a dark room, Calvin clutches at his pillow, eyes wide in existential terror. There is no text in the panel.
Must be a different Dry Creek than the one by me. Some friends and I got some late season skiing laps in today!
Orban achieved a level of authoritarian consolidation unthinkable here and they still successfully got rid of him. Never let the doomers have the final say.
Hungarians showing how to win big in an unfair election: organize AND protest AND vote AND demand profound change.

Harper’s Weekly illustration of “President Lincoln Entering Richmond, April 4, 1865,” walking with his son Tad through burnt out streets surrounded by cheering liberated slaves
Leslie’s Illustrated print of President Lincoln entering the White House of the Confederacy in Richmond, Virginia, April 4, 1865, while cheered by a throng of Richmond residents— many of them formerly enslaved, liberated the day before by occupying Union troops.
OTD: April 4, 1865: President Lincoln (accompanied by his son Tad) visited Richmond, Virginia, the Confederate capital that Union troops captured the day before. Liberated slaves hailed him in the burnt out streets. Lincoln went to the White House of the Confederacy which Jefferson Davis had fled.
IMO it's letting the current hype crash & burn, people actually doing interesting stuff with LLMs continue doing them w/o fanfare, and after things have died down if something actually good deserves mainstreaming you either rebrand it (if it's Too Soon) or go "this isn't your grandma's LLM" (if not)
Never mind X, those linkedin comments are plenty sweaty. I don't use my LinkedIn so I had no idea how bad it was👀
