which bull are you sublating today?
My brief contribution is about Substack. Many thanks to the incredible team at The Drift.
Thinking about a PMLA "Changing Profession" cluster on "On (Not) Reading Literary Essays after AI": if anyone's interested in writing / editing hmu, have a good central essay on Ishiguro / Cusk already.
love the alt-text here, a useful case!

Happy 80th birthday to Tim Curry who has always, *always* understood the assignment.
wow congrats! Be in touch on your work for our series, too
oh my god
What is going on with these tacos? Did the Fates tell them they would die if they contained an appropriate level of protein?
I didn’t know this :(
Exactly 💯
Digitally manipulated photo of the cast of the Pitt with their scrubs swapped out for papal robes.
Dead.
Pre-prints: can a journal actually prevent us publishing them? What about a journal that has mismanaged its process so badly that it is now 15 months past pub date and counting?
🚨: My new monograph ARRESTING ECOLOGIES: GLOBAL LITERATURE ACROSS AIR, LAND, and SEA, 1926-2014 is available for preorder from OXFORD UP, with 30 percent discount.
“The resurgence of fascisms around the world, the dangers of having a reasonable conversation about the fight for freedom in Palestine, & the insidious perpetuation of myths about Haiti, meant that Césaire’s unknown play passed the test of timely significance.”
A man who truly loves shows it with these 13 actions in his marriage - MSN msn.com › en-us › entertainment › news › bela-lugo... Bela Lugosi terrified audiences as Dracula; as Béla Blaskó, he fled Hungary's communist uprising, leaving behind a life of danger and heartbreak.
Men: Never forget that women want you to prove your love by doing the simple things, such as fleeing a life of danger and heartbreak during Hungary's communist uprising before going on to terrify audiences as Dracula
This experience needs to be acknowledged. I describe it as a nascent probabilistic intuition for the style of LLM writing.

Have more thoughts about the Borgesian universe of a thousand research tools and their infinite intersecting research conversations, but will leave it there. The coherence of a question + research community is still key for me. Who are we speaking to, and what texts+ questions do they care about?
We're about to come out with Elements on textual reuse algorithms, streaming platform affordances, and new literary visualization methods, all interesting questions with enormous applications.
My own sense is that we badly need more *standardized workflows, corpora, questions* on the lines of @quinnanya.me 's work, not more tools -- let me know if you have one that you think should be generalized, used in classes, etc., we would love to review and publish it.
DigLit Comrades, I'm getting my head around what even can be asked in a standardized way now -- wrestling with what I think @t-shoemaker.bsky.social called the problem of infinite new text analysis tools on request, all potentially idiosyncratic, leading down a thousand new lines of inquiry. +
" I wish we could have spent our entire youth simply enjoying literature and the arts, history and philosophy. I wish we could have drowned ourselves in Persian poetry... We are left doubly alone. We own this grief, mourning all by ourselves."
Yes let's do! I think it would be widely useful and re-used. Let's chat sometime -- I'm around M/W/F most of pm
"Shelley and the Bad Corpus" is so good too, love it
If either of you are interested, would love to see a proposal on a process + claims on a specific corpora, could use this material too
Love this Quinn -- let's talk with Lee too about a short Element on this? I'm working on this shortly and I'd like to do some practical work thinking about fanfic corpora.
My new book Cancelled Futures is out with @princetonupress.bsky.social September 8th
Based on 62 interviews with working-class youth living in East London, Rochdale & Morecambe it examines how race, class, gender and place shape how young people envision their transition to work
