It’s only going that fast because it clearly needs to take a massive dump
1. Set the tone. Be friendly. Introduce yourself and indicate your pronouns. Perhaps offer a handshake, fist bump, or even just a smile. Ask about where they're from, how their event is going, etc.
2. Deck selection Discuss which bracket you want to play, and if you still have options, consider asking this question: "Are there any archetypes or play patterns you'd rather not play against?"
3. During the game Be a good sport when things don't go your way. Compliment your opponents when they make good plays. If they play a card you're fond of, tell them!
4. Cleanup Step Thank your opponents for the game, and perhaps ask if they're available for another one! If you enjoyed gaming together, consider swapping socials so you can game together at another event.
MagicCon Las Vegas is coming up, and some of you may have concerns about gaming with people you've never met.
This is a skill you can get better at. I think I'm pretty good at it

I cut out all the Nettlecysts - only kept Mantle of the Ancients-style ones that count attached. Ria Ivor lets me choose not to murder someone if I accidentally went too hard.
It's still a reliable, fun ride but I'm not zooming to the end of the game. I want to do wacky things for 8-10 turns.
It takes intentionality to build a bracket 2 deck, IMO.
Arna Kennerud, for example, is I think inherently a b3 commander. When I first built the deck I was accidentally swinging for hundreds of damage after attack triggers resolved. This is my attempt to rein her in.
