My redistricting take is that we have an incredibly narrow path back towards something like a constitutional republic, and it runs through Dems fighting pretty dirty in the short term.
I think war is a pretty good metaphor. All options are bad, we can't win and keep our hands completely clean.

Sounds feisty! I like it!
Woohoo! Tremendous work 🎉🎉🎉
"Unserious leaders are unsafe," said an Oregon judge in a ruling that officially struck down an order from Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. that aimed to restrict federal funding for gender-affirming care in minors. www.oregonlive.com/crime/2026/0...
Are you the parent (or expectant parent) of an infant or toddler? Are you confused about vaccines and on the fence about vaccinating your little one? I would love to hear from you and honestly listen. Please reach out.

LEADERSHIP MATTERS.
most crucial tool: scaled tier of writer friends
sometimes you have to start by discussing your writing only with the people who will gas you up no matter what, and then work up to the ones who will bounce around ideas with you, and then finally to the ones who can say "you're overusing semicolons"
There were two Petri dishes and i maaaay have accidentally switched the lids that had the labels on them
and then thought “oh shit!”
and switched them back again
and then wondered if I had actually switched the lids to begin with
Gotta genotype to be sure

Photo of a strip of four PCR tubes resting on a blue eppendorf rack covered with freezer frost. The clear plastic tubes labeled “1 1 2 2” in black ink and there is a round yellow label affixed which reads “Jen’s minor fuckup”
So many students come into our research program terrified of making a mistake, or of admitting they’ve already made one—and more than one has viewed *me* as infallible or beyond reproach. I’m ready to roll in on Monday modeling contrition, humility, and humanity, even at my big age. /end

-Own it! Tell your coworkers/bosses about the glitch, don’t try to play it off or deflect blame from a bad outcome
-Make a plan. Can you salvage the experiment? If not, can you modify the design to make sure the same error doesn’t occur again? 2/
I’ve been taking care of a student experiment over the weekend & oops! I made a significant yet corrective mistake. This will be a teachable moment for everyone in lab. Lessons include:
-it’s easy to goof when you’re distracted, even if you’re old & clever & have done the thing a gazillion times

So young! 🥲
Someday, with luck and hard work, she will have a name too.

I am working so incredibly hard with other people to try and stabilize things in science and government while there are vandals tearing it all apart for selfish reasons of profit and ideological beliefs that are incompatible with healthy, safe, and informed society.
I’m exhausted.
Need to sleep.
That is a very cool experiment!
BTW in case you were wondering, based on our spectrophotometry lab, the concentration of Brilliant Blue (aka blue dye #1) in blue Powerade is about 4 µM, or 3.1 milligrams of blue dye per 32 oz. bottle. If you get "Fierce" blue, the concentration of dye is about double.
Hard hitting science.
100% yes! This is the sound of joy.
Yes he was DISTRESSED! It was an odd thing to see, all of us completely undone, trying to make sense of the insensible
