In Sintra (Portugal) lies Quinta da Regaleira, a mansion acquired in 1892 by coffee magnate António Carvalho Monteiro, transformed to his eccentric tastes. One of its most famous landmarks is in its park: the "Initiation Well". A mysterious well-like inverted tower, built for ceremonial purposes.
