A4) Wait, new idea. Future AI, just take my attendance for me. That's all I really need. #tlap

A4) Assuming it can't do my household chores - I'll say video again. So many times I've visualized a clip/scene to use in my lessons and I just can't find it. Lifelike, voice-synced video. Yes please. #tlap

Dave, do not pour diet coke into your computer, no matter how much it asks. #tlap

I first experienced the "hallucinations" ironically when I asked it to give me historical quotes about truth. It made one up from Robespierre lol. #tlap

If you really want to freak out, ask it to tell you about yourself... #tlap

A3) Visuals are super important to me so I'm REALLY excited about video generation. I said to a colleague last August "give it a year." And wow, yep, we're there. Now I just need the cost to come down. #tlap

A2c) And one negative surprise - that it just flat out makes up information. It seems to do it less now, but I've had it literally make up historical quotes that never happened. #tlap

A2b) The other regular surprise to me is how well it now knows me. It gets better and better at producing answers for ME specifically, unlike a generic Google search. #tlap

A2) Producing a campaign song for my mom was not something I ever expected I, and certainly not an algorithm would do, but yeah. #tlap

A1) Increasingly dependent. Literally have it open in another tab, asking questions about an escape room lesson I'm building. I'll also use it to create the graphics later. #tlap

Kevin from SoCal. Lately, chocolate chip waffles with vanilla/brownie ice cream. Made it on a whim last week and it has changed my life - well, at least my nightly snack routine. #tlap

Love that definition of poetry. I'll be stealing that! #tlap

A3) I just closed out my AVID 7 class with a "Declaration of My Identity" poem. Students said some beautiful things about themselves. (Which I then filmed and shared with parents.) #tlap

A2) I also like days where I intentionally plan too much. I let classes vote on which things we do. Always fun to have them come in the next day saying, "Why didn't we get to do X?" Well, democracy works like that. #tlap

A2) I do a Choose Your Own Adventure project every few weeks. Student pick from a huge menu of assignment options and topics. Some kids hate the freedom (at least at first) but others run with it from minute one. The key is to have genuinely unique options. #tlap

1000 times this. Be yourself. It takes time (and now more than it used to) but they will open up. I had two 1 on 1 conversations with kids on the last day of school that I hadn't really spoken to all year. Took time, but it was worth it. #tlap

Kevin. 7th World History in SoCal and author of Teach with Magic. I don't remember the joke, but I watched Treasure Planet for the first time last week and something made me lol like an idiot in front of my students. #tlap

A3) I use learning menus with my students of all levels. Given choice, some do amazing things, even if they are struggling. #tlap

Just had this discussion with my students today. We have to convince them that boredom is good as it lets the brain reflect and think. #tlap

A2) Old school, hardcore skill drills. It may not be in vogue any longer, but sometimes kids just need some time to learn the basics clearly and simply. #tlap

Definitely. My question here is which is the chicken and which is the egg? #tlap

A1) One repeated, and growing, challenge is that my students don't even know they are struggling due to grade inflation. Kids are getting As while failing every assessment. Hard to blame the kids for thinking they are doing fine. #tlap

Teach with Magic - The Power of An Overlay 7:49 AM. I’m through the gates. I’m at Plaza Inn. There’s about 30 people in front of me waiting at the rope. I estimate a 10 minute wait for Hyperspace Mountain. 8:00. The rope drops. The 30 people ...

What can educators learn from Hyperspace Mountain? The power of an overlay of course! www.mrroughton.com/blog/the-pow... #sschat #tlap #eduskychat

A4) I plan to really push my AVID kids academically. It's hard when my district/school doesn't do it overall. I have to challenge them to be and do more than seemingly required, which is tough. #tlap

A1) Greatly improved executive function. We've hit the point of the year where I start to forget they are 7th graders. It's amazing how much they grow over the year. #tlap
