Idea: Function on a hotel’s app that tells you how many people are currently in the pool as well as how many of them are kids yelling at the top of their lungs.

Come on Globe and Mail.
Oh phew. Andrew Coyne and i are on opposite sides of an issue again. Nature is healing. 🌲
Even among conservatives, the Montreal Economic Institute elicits seismic eye rolling.
This development at Main and Oblats Ave is what Lansdowne should be. Human-scaled. 5 stories of residential above retail—that is actually being leased! Proper greenspace. A wide pedestrian boulevard (no cars parking wherever). A space that says you are welcome here. #ottawa #lansdowne
Carney’s political instincts have been pretty good. But this is way off public opinion. Like way off. So this is either message testing or a sign of slippage.
“Open the treats bag, Hal”
Hmm. It’s a matter of public record that Singh tried to get electoral reform from the Libs in March 2022. The Trudeau team flatly rejected any talk of it. Not sure what more could have been done here.
Moving from downtown to an industrial railyard is a flawless way to ensure no one ever thinks about the Agawa Canyon Tour Train ever again. #SooSky #theSoo #SaultSteMarie
Overheard in Ottawa: “He told me his love language is receiving gifts. The more expensive and elaborate the better.”
Nice try, my dude.
Simultaneously in awe of space exploration and human achievement and the stupidity of the American refusal to adopt the metric system.
It’s been about 40 mins since splashdown. Only longer disembarkment is Ottawa airport.
The industry sold it as a way to end an illicit market. They didn’t mention the knock-on effects of an unimaginable advertising and partnership blitz.
Good morning Ottawa. #goodmorningottawa
When i was in university, there was a floor of our dorm designed quiet. No loud music, shouting, etc. at any time. That was the rule. The rest of us used to laugh about this.
Today this sounds like heaven. Why would a sensible person want anything else?? 🤫
These things are near impossible to write even when you have the time. But for something needed so fast, this statement from the Ontario NDP is remarkably well written. Artful.
Politician. Diplomat. Humanitarian.
And this photo of him having debated then-Senator Kennedy in 1957 on the USA’s obligations to the world. A reminder that Stephen Lewis lived a very large life.
A statesman and a truly great Canadian. An especially tragic thing to happen for his son and family.
I wish Avi Lewis well in what is arguably the most difficult job in Canadian politics. My only advice would be that he seek advice, early and often. What Jen Howard offers below is hard-earned and an excellent place to start. 👇
Someone at the Rideau Farm Boy is feelin’ it.
Also the numbers don’t follow the same rules as the letters. They are elongated, lack the letters’ stroke breaks, and include serifs (note the 1 and 7). Two different fonts entirely. The original was more cohesive.
⚠️ Typeface nerdery post: I much prefer the previous Canada soccer name/numbers font. It had character and originality. The new one has an 80s futurism feel that doesn’t quite land for me. #canmnt #canadasoccer #canwnt
Internet: “Check out this great new Ottawa restaurant!!”
“It’s at Moodie Drive and Corn Maze Road.” 🫤

Interior photo of a mark store. A lot of denim and plaid. So much brownish plaid.
If you’ve not been in a while, there’s a certain timelessness to these stores. Unfortunately the time is 1987.
What were you like in the 90s?
Imagine a Marks Work Wearhouse, but self-aware.
Turnout indicates the health of a democracy. It shows how engaged citizens are and how much faith they have in the system. In 2025 Canadians were engaged. We were facing an existential threat. Yet turnout didn't crack 70%. Because in Canada and globally voters put little faith in first-past-the-post
One thing being overlooked in coverage of the Danish election is turnout. An incredible 84% of Danes voted. Compare that with Canada, where last year's "high turnout" election saw only 70%. Why the difference? Denmark uses a proportional system, where every vote counts. Not so in Canada.
You can't tell me everything is doomed, we might as well give up, we're cooked, etc etc when just yesterday we learned of dogs that worked together to escape a slaughterhouse to make their way home & now we learn a civilian talked down a suicide bomber by being kind.
Doomerists are wrong.
I thought about this man all last night. I'm still thinking about him. It's not anger, it's sadness. But not just for his loved ones. I'm sad that my city's leaders have convinced themselves that safer streets aren't possible and courage is for pedestrians, not city hall.
