8.30am on Beckenham High Street during Easter Break. You'd hardly know it's the morning rush hour!

This shows how much car traffic comes from school travel. If our streets were genuinely safe for parents & children to walk & cycle, we could permanently reduce traffic for safer streets & cleaner air

Drainage upgrades on Westgate Road near #Beckenham Place Park, were completed this week by Lewisham Council.

Parking spaces by the park entrance have been removed, vehicles should be park on Foxgrove Road.

🤞 less traffic, better drainage will prevent the road becoming a boggy mess when it rains

Text reads: Residents in south-east London have said the authorities have done nothing to stop speeding cars despite sending police more than a thousand reports of vehicles breaking the limit.

People living on Siward Road and Godwin Road near Bromley town centre said drivers use their roads as short cuts.

The residents said there were eight accidents there between 2024 and 2025, including a pedestrian being knocked over, and want traffic calming measures such as chicanes, road narrowing and planters to be installed.

The Met Police said traffic calming was a council responsibility, but Bromley Council said those roads were not a priority for further action as no one has been injured in collisions recently.

While other London boroughs have been getting on with investing in traffic filters, school streets & cycle lanes, which are *proven* to make streets safer... Bromley Council resolutely ignores residents' demands to tackle speeding & high traffic volumes www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

We are a friendly amateur orchestra based at Beckenham Methodist Church. This and next Thursday 7:30pm, we'll be playing through Rachmaninov's Symphonic Dances for fun, without the pressure of a performance. Suggested donation of £10 per evening. Violins, violas, and lower brass especially welcome 😁

Text: Three simple changes could transform this situation: 1/ Re-establishing the School Street with ANPR, 2/ Making up the road with green infrastructure for drainage, and 3/ Installing zebra crossings with bulb-outs on routes leading to the school - particularly Foxgrove/Westgate Road

Text: In 2022 Bromley Council set up a School Street to improve air quality and traffic safety - this was a bit better, even if it didn't resolve the flooding. But the council wouldn't buy ANPR cameras to monitor the School Street, so it was shut down by late 2022.

Sign showing traffic sign for school street with black plastic covering the top half.

Text: When it rains, the unsealed road turns into a series of giant puddles - not just the roadway but the pavement too. However, the road is unadopted and Bromley Council doesn't hold legal responsibility to maintain it, so they won't do anything to fix the road.

Over 2.5 years ago we posted about the poor management of Westgate Road, Beckenham (thread below). Glad to see Bromley Council officers out this week, enforcing a new permit parking zone that should make the school gate safer & healthier for St Mary's Primary students @chloe-janelibdem.bsky.social

Be careful out there, people!

Multiple reports of cyclists being mugged for their bikes by moped gangs.

Shirley Church Road (Croydon) and College Road (Dulwich) targeted in recent days.

Keep an eye out for these scumbags and report anything suspicious to the police!
