Hull - Ottawa River Regulation Planning Board

I was looking at the Chaudière bridge. The observed level is still up, albeit not much over, the last two days (but higher than when I was there on Sunday).

Hmm...the water map I looked at today had it up from yesterday, at least at the bridge here. 🧐

Okay..so what waterproof panniers do I need for bike packing?
I find my MEC panniers difficult- they're too stiff and it makes packing difficult. And they don't stand up well when off the bike.
Suggestions?

Just wait til you have to go somewhere and use an electric stove now. It takes decades for it to heat up. You can feel yourself aging as you wait. πŸ˜‚

Laurier Avenue cycling modifications | City of Ottawa Design of the Laurier Avenue Cycling Modifications is complete. Work is anticipated to begin in summer 2025.

Reconfiguring it so it's a cycle track and putting in a protected intersection at Laurier/Elgin. πŸ‘Œ

The river is bonkers right now.
I am alright, but I managed to skin my knee like a five year old, and scrap my shoulder and my other knee. Job well done really. Gonna be some excellent bruises tomorrow and take a few weeks for my right knee to heal. πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ

Letting the river make me feel dizzy for a bit on my run.
Oh hey, maybe I can blame it for why I fell down and gave myself some amazing road rash on my knees and shoulder!

Found a sale for the 840 that meant it was only $5 more than the 540 so I snapped it up. πŸ‘Œ

That's the watch I have. I just did a reset on it because it hasn't been pairing with my phone for months and when setting it up and told me this is a feature. πŸ˜‚
Coulda used that about three hrs ago.

I just looked and saw I have that. πŸ˜‚
Learned something new!

Have they considered crash alerts doe running watches because I just wiped out on a run and after screaming obscenities thought that if I ever smash my face up real good that feature might be nice. πŸ˜‚

3 days ago 0 0 1 0

Yeah I saw that feature which is neat.
I also saw that it has a 15sec delay for when it thinks you crashed but really you get bounced off a curb or something. So that's good...

I suppose my equivalent of this is letting @613bike.bsky.social plan the route and having zero idea where we are and just attempting to keep up. Or at least hoping he waits at the top of a hill. πŸ˜‚ (My answer to "why so many hills bro?!" was answered last year when we reached the dam. 🫣)

I hate not knowing where I am...too stressful.

Oh, interesting! I did not know this was possible.

Done.
This is probably a lot more power than I actually need given I am just biking to look for bears and deer, but I really want to explore more trails and am too afraid of getting lost to do it. πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™€οΈ

Read that yesterday! Reading the 840 review now (for $5 more I can get a 840....touchscreen and buttons! ).

Seems to be a sale in the 840... probably since it's a few years old now....

I think my main concern comes down to wanting to be able to explore places and not worry about being lost. So I want to be able to easily navigate if I decide to go off course...and I don't want to have to hold my phone and hope I have enough bars in the woods. πŸ˜‚

I am into mulit-day bike packing adventures! Which is why I thought the solar might be helpful, but also I always carry battery packs. πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™€οΈ
So I am not sold on solar vs non. For me I'd be more worried about how you navigate on the fly.

What do you think about how you navigate through menus?
The complainants I have read are in that area.
I have lived in the Garmin "world" for the last 18yrs so I am familiar with navigation being frustrating sometimes. πŸ˜‚

I do like the idea of it letting me know I'm in for an hr of pain or only ten mins. How do you find the battery life?

The 540 as solar is buttons but the 540 as non is a touchscreen. I wonder if that helps with navigation. Although to be fair, my running watches have always been Garmin and they take some time to get used to...
My biggest "ask" is being able to navigate easily on the fly because I hate being lost.
