Loving this cartoonists' rendering of my talk in Amsterdam last month. The idea: focusing on the science of gut health can bring new energy to conversations about preventative health & extending 'healthspan'. Diet & lifestyle take center stage.
(Thank you to Amsterdam Green Campus for this output!)
Wanna talk diet & IBD? Join this virtual Atlanta-based group on Thursday night (7pm Eastern), where I'll chat with the amazing Dr. Aja McCutchen about all things gut health & microbiome.

Basically, bioinformaticians won't be out of a job anytime soon
Establishing causality between the microbiome & disease has been tougher than expected. A group of experts recently published this consensus on the way forward:

This is fun -- an article on WHY gut health is such a big deal and how paying attention to gut health cuts through all the noise about health.
(In Dutch but your browser may be able to translate it to English...)

So does Akkermansia have a different role in development vs. adulthood? I don't think we understand enough about it yet.
In a previous life I was a practicing speech-language pathologist & stuttering is a real conundrum. It's treated behaviorally but research on etiology really needs a shake-up.
I'm excited to post about cool microbiome papers again -- I can't stop thinking about this one. It shows (in mice) that a gene mutation contributing to developmental stuttering is associated with a certain gut microbiota.
Akkermansia (normally good!) is increased.

Yikes I just saw this was up for pre-order on Amazon -- my next book, IBS For Dummies! Super excited but excuse me while I go write the last 25% real quick... 😅
Hi friends! I'm here. It's been a bit painful to let go of the other platform because it used to be such an enjoyable place, but I find no value in spending time there these days.
I continue to write words and more words... about gut health, the microbiome, and mystery topics to be announced soon 🎉
