The wheels have come off, the guard rails are missing and the US is over the cliff.... and it appears a bunch of the passengers are still cheering it on!

This seems relevant somehow...
"Oh, what a tangled web we weave, when first we practice to deceive!"
- Sir Walter Scott, 1808
A massive spiral galaxy fills the image, with its bright yellow core seen near the upper left. Spiral arms whirl outward, laced through with dark brown dust and bright blue patches of star formation.
Angled from the upper left corner to the lower right corner is a cone-shaped orange-red cloud known as Herbig-Haro 49/50. This feature takes up about three-fourths of the length of this angle. The upper left end of this feature has a translucent, rounded end. The conical feature widens slightly from the rounded end at the upper right down to the lower right. Along the cone there are additional rounded edges, like edges of a wave, and intricate foamy-like details, as well as a clearer view of the black background of space. In the upper left, overlapping with the rounded end of Herbig-Haro 49/50, is a background spiral galaxy with a concentrated blue center that fades outward to blend with red spiral arms. The background of space is speckled with some white stars and smaller, more numerous, fainter white galaxies throughout.
A densely packed cluster of yellow stars shines at the center of the image, with more stars scattered throughout. Clouds of glowing indigo gas and dust dominate the lower half of the view, and a red star with diffraction spikes shines at upper right.
A nebula made up of cloudy gas and dust in the form of soft and wispy clouds and, in the center, thin and highly detailed layers pressed close together. Large, bright stars surrounded by six long points of light are dotted over the image, as well as some small, point-like stars embedded in the clouds. The clouds are lit up in blue close to the stars; orange colors show clouds that glow in infrared light.
i need some space… and maybe you do too
Remember Signal-gate? How, at first, the world was shocked and then outraged, then we laughed as they kept digging the hole for themselves, that seems like such a long time ago...sigh it has only been 4 weeks
Nerds who care are needed more than ever to fight this information purge!
Visiting the cityofpae council depot sign shop is always is always visually pleasing
They are so stupid, it's horrifying!
I get the feeling that the current US administration is unaware that the population of the US is only about 4% of the total population of humans on the planet...
They need us more than we need them in the end
This is essential viewing... Maria Ressa is fearless and amazing - this ends up being a deep dive on the enshitification of the internet thanks to social media and where we are heading!
I love being able to make stuff like this in my library STEM officer role on our 3d printers. Every library should have a Makerspace.
Now comes the finishing!

Maybe, just maybe... Europe is remembering it built the Union for a reason and that it's much stronger than it thinks!
In an extraordinary display of public support, heads of state, heads of government, and foreign ministers from all over Europe and Canada are posting in support of Ukraine in response to the Oval Office meeting with Trump, Zelenskyy, and Vance.
Respect is earned... something Trump and JD Vance no nothing about.
So.... one thing to remember is that often, sensible government investment in a well organised and fully staffed civil service keeps private consultants from pillaging tax dollars and delivering less...
Just a thought... maybe some advocating for staff cuts have consultant mates...
Sometimes the reason people are being 'Alarmist' is because something is occurring that everyone should be feeling alarmed about...
Hey... psst... all you everyday workers in the US, remember that end bit in a 'bugs life' where the ants realise they greatly out number the grasshoppers overlords and proceed to kick their arses... just saying it's worth a watch again.
Take some time this week to drop into your local library and let them know how much they mean to you and the community.

Giant Seagulls, live music, bubble machines powered by bike power... I love community summer festivals in Oz 😀
Watching from afar, i think this sums up the current situation in the US!
Having options for small/local bookstores pleases me as someone who works in public libraries.
Palm sized hand made crocheted basket using blue coloured t-shirt yarn recovered from an old t-shirt. Has a lasercut plywood base and being held in a left hand, central image.
When it all seems a bit much the only thing to do is make together...
For example, taught myself to crochet this basket, made from old staff t-shirts I was able to divert from landfill. Then made into a fun workshop targeted at youth in our libraries...
Called it Making Circular
Do you think most people in the US know they only make up 4.2% of the total world population?
I'm really worried they may not be okay!
Can someone check on them, please?
I'd ask the neighbours, but you know...
Anthropologists recently announced that the world has quickly exited the Anthropocene and entered a new epoch know as the Fuckwittocene!
Outsiders perpective: Currently the US democracy is under unprecedented assault from within...
This is what they mean by the fragility of democracy... norms don't matter when the guardrails have gone.
But you have also pissed off the librarians... you have awoken the oncoming resistance...
daily reminder to support your local library, even if that’s just by checking out ebooks! 📚
Well BlueSky, here we go then...
