The fact it's almost 3am and I can't sleep might be obvious. These are my prime existential crisis on bsky hours hehe if you read all this I give you some snippets of Nat art 🤲. SEO hates me, I distribute art only on the end of rambling threads now!
I've also been thinking about how most art is lost forever after its time and it's kinda depressing ,but it's also super liberating. You can just make something in the now and it's ok if it only touches those of the now.
It's kind of comforting that life goes on to be honest. But damn it makes me feel old, I've seen so many mutuals come and go, but I'm still here!!! And when I stop, it won't be that bad.
I culled my YouTube and insta follows recently and it plays on my mind just how many people I followed that stopped posting one day, out of nowhere. One had even died. It reminds you of how temporary this all is, even this brief moment of sharing an active art presence with another..

I think you're right! And next time I'm working on something 'selfish' I'll have to remind myself that it will have that earnest quality that I admire in other people's work.
And if it helps, I use clip studio paint with a mix of two brushes - gentle pencil for a flat hard round brush with a bit of edge texture, and then this one with a turtle in the name LOL I find it has nice texture and ability to blend colours. They can both be found on the asset store!
Since you asked specifically about painting and blending I think these are the most important factors to think about to when capturing the form and its roundness, and things like colour/temp variation give you more variety so even the flat areas stay interesting!
I made this video going through my general painting process! It's not much, but I hope it's useful. I find it's super helpful to look at reference while thinking of the things I mention and analysing other people's work to help decide on colour/temperature/edge control

Woah thank you everyone for the kindness towards my little lico wip!! It's heartening after a lot of self doubt lately with regards to making art for myself vs for others, but maybe that's not really the right way of looking at it! I'm happy art that I see as art for me can also be art for you
Sometimes I use a lower opacity on my brush, but usually it's controlled through the pen pressure opacity :D since this is easier to show than explain I'll make a little video tomorrow when I have some time to show the basic process if that helps :) (also thank you! I appreciate your kind words)

Ooh and to even it out, one thing I don't love about my new job- when people email me they are weirdly cold and blunt. Like it genuinely feels like I'm being treated like a chat bot sometimes. But hey, if I let them just treat me like a tool I get more drawing time, so I'm not complaining!!
One thing I love about not trying to make my full income on art now is that I feel more free to waste time on drawings that don't make money but are super fun and cute and support my work in less direct ways. I can return to whimsy 🤲

I hope to make it a bit longer, but also segmented so it's can just skip to what you want from it! Email digests are like my favourite way to see what creators are up to since its away from the hustle of social media and more in-depth. So I wanted to be a part of that slower internet vibe!
