Me to all those staff officers and future general staff officers when I'm giving one of my silly little pop culture classes:

I can watch any amount of horror or gore or suspense with no worries at all, but can't be dispassionate with reality...the first 20min of "2000 Meters to Andriivka" and the tension is so high I feel like throwing up.

And now we all sit and watch Vaibhav Sooryavanshi to see if he'll make your list. Bookmark this conversation about greats to revisit in 2037 :)

Hush this story up quickly before WP sees it and adds 'fighting off bears' to DoD fitness standards.

Solidarity! (My big patio window also has a little face-grease smudge where I have touched it with my chin whilst looking up at aeroplanes.)

Indeed! Mrs Marlowe was a superb provider of deus ex machina level key information at the precise point it was needed ;)

The more I perused this table the more interesting it got, especially the percentage weight of the aircraft column. I'm no maintainer or flyer so don't know much about weight & balance shenanigans but a radar making up 7% of overall empty weight seems wild. Thanks for posting :)

Can't believe everyone's passing on The Constitution Part 2! It's use of the Dutch Angle (1788) alone makes it worth a rewatch.

I hate that you made me go and look that up ;) Well done.

AI Survey 2026

OUP just sent me a nice little survey on AI use. I've told them what I think - I think you should too!

A picture of a library shelf with a small rolled up note on it. The note says “read this” in child’s handwriting.

A picture of the note unrolled. In the same child’s handwriting it reads “beware of the future!!”

Still thinking about this note I found in the children’s section of the public library when I worked there back in 2018. This kid tried to warn us…

A genuine real estate ad for a property genuinely on the market (it's on a bunch of for sale websites right now). Great job 😆

Perilous to make jokes about snipers, but that one Marine there reminds me I was watching Hobbs & Shaw last night which had a quote something like "It's your size: spray-on".

Instead of being productive on my day off I thought I'd finally get around to watching the (Rangers recruitment) movie "War Machine." Very Large Man vs Aliens is my sort of film. Hadn't realised it was filmed in NZ & the Aust high country though so had to keep Leo'ing. Fun movie :)

Great composure. Nothing about that kick was easy to start with let alone with 'take the lead' pressure in the mix! Your family must all be very proud of him I'm sure :)

Bunker busters and a Burger King: a visual guide to US military bases on British soil War with Iran has brought 15 American sites across the UK countryside firmly into the spotlight

"The bases also boast some home comforts: RAF Lakenheath has a bowling alley, a Burger King and baseball fields."
Uninspiring. Most (horrified) excitement I've seen from Brits is at the base selling a whole chicken in a can ;)
