we need to leave space for the mariners to deal emotionally with the situation in the strait of hormuz. those are their brothers out there.
i'm just so tired of the veteran, weak-side platoon bat the mariners insist on using every season. i'd much rather see luke raley, THE BEST-HITTING MARINER SO FAR bat with the bases loaded and one out, than a guy who gets three plate appearances a week.

well they get themselves into a situation where they had to face alvarez with a righty and managed to survive. of course that's also our best righty.
i would simply not pitch to yordan alvarez with a righty in a close game. i would go to great lengths to avoid doing so.
The article states that they are coming here because they aren't able to find electricity elsewhere. It sounds like if SCL won't provide power, it could scuttle their plans.
Otherwise, how would the create their own power? Gas turbines ala Musk's Memphis data center?

it's refreshing to see the mariners have found a whole new way to be completely infuriating
I had a double-smoke at the Hempler's stand at T-Mobile and it was excellent. Well worth the added price over a Mariner Dog, which is also a very good ballpark dog. I get Mariner Dogs to grill at home, I like them so much.
i think it's a really good thing i did not watch the mariners tonight. i might have (redacted) after the third...you know
Colt Emerson is batting 3rd for Tacoma tonight. Hopefully good news for Donovan.
I'd be psyched to watch this start by Emerson Hancock, but alas, I will be at the Kraken game. Their playoffs hopes are hanging by a thread so a win would be big.
Go Kraken!
Go M's!
What's the charge time at 350 kw?
Tacoma's game is at 5 PDT so we might know soon...
Oh, right, I forgot about the sun-tracking kind. I imagine there is a formula that determines if the extra up-front cost plus maintenance is worth the additional energy.
not only does solar not require fuel, it requires very limited maintenance of any kind. it has no moving parts. someone just needs to wipe off the panels every once in a while. and depending upon location you can do some kinds of agriculture on the same land.
i think i was actually there that night. i went to a ton of games in the early 90's
yeah there's no way that should be overturned.
there was one vs. the brewers in the 90's that lasted liked ten full minutes. it was insane. i think it was this one

(also whither the extensions for Gilbert and Kirby??? we know they rule!)
I would prefer they'd waited just a smidge. At least 300 PAs / 75 games or so before making this kind of a commitment. It's fine to like a young player. But you can simply never assume a player with zero major league experience will be a star. There are too many examples where that went poorly.
I trusted the team to evaluate Evan White based on data they had that we did not. They were right about his power, but wrong about his ability to adjust to major league pitching -- probably.
I feel more confident in Emerson based on the stats we outsiders can see. But that's a boatload of cash.
...of free agency or $32m / year.
So why not wait until after Emerson has played a year in the majors? There would be a cost to signing him after he's proven himself, but there is tremendous risk in signing him before that point. How much more could Emerson demand after a single season?
Colt Emerson has far less bust potential. His contact rates are higher, and strikeout rates substantially lower. And he plays a premium defensive position.
But the team is also paying him more. A lot more. For basically two years of free agency, plus a club option. Call it $106m for three years
Though this outcome was unpredictable, White had serious bust potential, and I didn't like the signing. He was on his way to being a player who simply couldn't make enough contact in the majors to succeed. So why give him all that money, guaranteed, when you have six years of control left?
The last time the M's signed a player to an extension before he'd seen the majors, it went poorly. Evan White played a bit during 2020 and had huge strikeout numbers -- which I predicted he would based on AA stats.
Then White was injured in 2021 and basically never played again. $24m for -.8 fWAR.
The Nationals beat the Phillies 13-2 and are now leading the NL East 3-1 with the second best run differential in baseball. Ahhhh March.
